Why don't people like to start groups?

Whether it’s 1 or 4 players they are looking for, they are still “LFM.”

That’s your statement.

You said if the person is alone, they should post LFG.

That’s the problem. There are so many people alone posting LFG rather than forming a group that they end up spamming it, but still fail to find a group.

They switch it LFM, and within five minutes they’ll almost have a full group.

That’s efficient and productive, which is why it’s better to post LFM when you are indeed looking for more people. You are hurting people’s ability to play the game by telling them they should only post LFG if they are alone.

I tank and am responsible for way more than every other party member put together, I don’t want to also be responsible for making the group.

If you are by yourself you just look for someone else also by themselves using “LFG” then you invite them so you can start the party with 2. Then you use LFM.

Preferably one of those people is a healer or a tank or you hardly have a party anyway.

I never said they should only post LFG. They can post LFG, or they can invite people who are posting LFG. Unless inviting people to your group is too much hassle, I guess?

It’s simple, really. Most people don’t want to have to deal with others drama. And let’s be honest, most (certainly not all) people cause drama of some sort. It’s a dice roll what kind of person you’re gonna deal with. Straight up, I loathe obnoxious people & unfortunately most of the player base has gotten extremely entitled & full of themselves & I’d rather not deal with it, nor do the people I run with want to. More often than not, you end up grouping w/someone that has very little respect, acts like they’re on adderall, jumps all over like an idiot, can’t wait two seconds, is petty about loot, ninjas or is just bad. I’ve had alot of good groups as well, but unfortunately, they tend to be much less frequent compared to the self centered pot stirrers. Ever since this game gained “masses appeal” it pushed out people of a more RPG mindset where there were unwritten rules. Most people don’t “get” them nor care about them, they just want what they want. Nah, I’m good…

That’s not realistic.

When people post LFG, they are looking for a group to invite them, not another person who is posting LFG. The two people posting LFG just keep posting that.

The minute one of them sees LFM, boom, they pst for an invite, and a group is quickly formed. It’s just like real life: everyone wants to be picked up, but the vast majority are too scared to make the first move.

No group would ever form if you could not Look For Members. Unless you’re you’re saying LFM means you’re only looking for 1 member, then I can agree. I always throw in a number…LF2M.

I usually get that first player by saying “LFM.”

When i played classic i used to start my groups all the time because everyone and there mom was playing healer so as a healer i had to make my groups

I whisper them and ask them if they want to start a group with me. They usually agree.

I get those whispers and I usually reply I’ll join you if you want to look for members

I also do that,

However, recognize you are effectively forming a group, despite being alone.

Could have still posted LFM, and added someone LFG, or maybe that person would actually whisper you. In short, more practical and effective to post LFM.

Maybe, but it is still more misleading and contrary to the established standard.

The established standard is a 10:1 ratio of people looking for a group rather than forming a group, causing a bottle neck, because people who are alone aren’t taking the initiative to form their own groups. Discouraging that behaviour makes things worse, not better.

I’m pretty sure all those people are aware they could take the initiative to start groups. They are using LFG because they don’t want to. Changing what LFM means won’t change that.

As heals, i have to start them a lot

I have never done anything beyond sunken temple in its vanilla incarnation. I am in no position to lead lol.

Great, now all I see in the LFG channel is “LF4M for <random 5man dungeon>, need tank/heals/dps”

Happy now?

That is not a problem, you are only forming the group, you do not have to lead it per se, you can even delegate leadership after the group forms if you want.

I usually set the tank as lead because in the dungeon, the tank marks, calls the pulls etc
