I am always in War mode, but generally as a passive entity. This was the case when PvP servers were still a thing and is the same with Warmode on. Hell I even help out the opposite faction with objectives frequently. Only time I will actively seek out WPvP is if someone slighted me or I need to finish up a PvP quest.
Generally though I will defend myself if it is reasonable for me to do so. If I am getting ganked by 1 or 2 Horde then I will attempt it for sure. Beyond that though I am really not interested. Not only is it unlikely unless they are extremely undergeared or bad, but I just don’t feel like it is a good or fun time investment for me. I don’t really care about going to find a group to counter gank, because I have other things to do, where just taking the death and rezing will be the quickest path to.
As far as BGs go I usually am not one to give up. And while I do observe that Alliance seems to lose often enough, I don’t observe it as a constant state, and certainly have steamrolling games.
I can only tell you why this Alliance player doesn’t “fight”: I have never had a PvP experience where the players - ON BOTH SIDES - were not total d-bags.
I play WoW for fun. The PvP players I’ve experienced to not contribute to fun. Thus, I don’t “fight”.
PvP in this game just kinda sucks. If I choose to go into a BG, yeah, I’ll fight until the end. But World PvP just feels like I’m babysitting the Horde. I’m just going through the motions to keep them entertained, because they can’t entertain themselves. Blizzard doesn’t pay me to babysit, so I don’t do it.
I’m curious what changes you’re talking about, from what I’ve seen blizzard has been adding incentives for the alliance to turn warmode on (larger warmode bonus, Against overwhelming odds, swarms of guards at FPs) while they haven’t added any incentives for the horde.
I’m a Horde carebear. Most of my guild likes to play with WM on, but I simply don’t like to fight other players in an environment where I have to run back to my body after I die and possibly get corpse-camped.
Incelmode’s only good for the exp/rep bonuses. Outside of Naz zerg rushes, the only werld pee vee pee I’ve experienced in it comes in the form of 2v1s or someone jumping you from behind while you’re having at an elite meat wall.
The last fun WPvP thing I remember would’ve been little skirmishes on Serpent’s Spine, or the rare Shrine invasion.
Before I faction swapped I just didn’t like being outnumbered and it happened often. I’m there mostly to finish my dailies and don’t have time to peel flattened body off the ground. If it were more equitable I’d be more inclined to engage, but it never was.
I can’t speak for any other Alliance players, but PVP in WoW (or anywhere else really) really isn’t my thing. I don’t have that hunter-killer instinct.
When I do join a PVP battleground for some specific reward like during the anniversary event, I will try my best to fight back and help the team. However, I have no interest in fighting other players just for fighting’s sake in world PVP and really can’t relate to the mindset of those who enjoy doing that all day long.
Also, I think the ongoing faction war in general is pretty contrived and forced at this point in the game’s lore. If PVP wasn’t a supported part of the game, the faction war probably would’ve been retired by now since the two factions end up cooperating against every Big Bad Guy that pops up anyway.
