Every “mage” type class in WoW is a finger waving, spell chanting weakling kinda vibe. We have pally, sure, but they’re not really a “mage” vibe, nor is DK.
Why don’t we have a melee mage?
Like imagine a bender from Avatar, or Runeblade from Maplestory, or Elementalist (with melee weapons) from GW2, or Red Mage from FFXIV. Very different vibe to a traditional mage.
Monks aren’t a mage / wizard / anything magical. They’re just monks.
If they had all sorts of elemental / arcane magic going around, sure, they’d be something like an eldritch fighter, but they don’t. They’re very Chinese / Taoist focused.
Right… because the Mage “vibe” is a finger waving spell chanting weakling, as you put it.
Its like complaining that a bike store only sells tricycles and bicycles, when youre wanting a bicycle but with 3 wheels because a 3 wheeled bike is cool but a tricycle is for kids. Yeah… thats a tricycle. Lol.
IMO this amount of channel abilities is unhealthy for the spec. Blizzard should bring the WW monk back to have more direct instant attacks, there should be not more than 2 channel spells in the melee toolkit.
A shaman is a spiritualist, channels power from nature, and is not manipulating things with magic.
A mage, even if melee, is actively manipulating reality and CREATING the things they do, rather than just channeling nature or some divine something or other.
WW already exists, but I would find it hilarious if warriors ran around screaming “LORE OF METAL” while splitting people in half.
My man, one of our hero talents is literally turn into a disco ball and radiate space/nature vibes at stuff around us. And through the power of wild magic (bad coding), it’ll cancel itself mid channel too.
