Why does the general WoW player base hate PvP?

The game isn’t balanced around PVP and I’d rather not change my entire mindset.

Pvp is way more about FOTM and comp and just stuff you have to grind before a match. There are better pvp games. That require less commitment. Although dragonflight is improving on that front slightly.

I think there is a bunch of things that effect it such as the barrier of entry and like the tuning on abilities not being intuitive. Pvp modifiers change up how stuff works and deals damage by a lot. Even for stats like crit.

No balance. Far too bursty. Huge gap when starting out. Also possibly fear of falling into a fomo cycle what with all PvP’s exclusive limited time rewards.

Honestly, the community did that more than blizzard did.

Read to this point then realized this thread is just bait.

Fine, but no more stun lock and your weapons are feathers. baby duck feathers.

the only thing that needed to be said

Because PvP in games (which really took off with the release of Quake) is responsible for almost every toxic trend in gaming. Moreover, PvP players are convinced they are in a majority when they are, in fact, nothing but a niche market. This is as true for Diablo II as it is for WoW. Despite this, abilities are nerfed or removed almost ENTIRELY based on balance issues for a miniscule part of the playerbase.

The minute you log in to a match you and everyone should have the same health and damage, and gear should be irrelevant. if it truly is about um skill then lets the best ping win. oh and limited healing and removal of CC abilities would also be good.

All of my pvp experience has involved screaming rage-a-holics belittling anyone who isn’t them.

It shouldn’t be bigger than M+ and Raids.

You play an MMO to role play and for its story. The game and its story is told through the campaign which includes Raids.

PVP does the only advance that story at all. So it should take a backseat to PvE.

Plus in a RPG, PvP is awkward because it usually revolves around skills. WoW PvP is not really based around skills. You lose to less skilled people because they are better geared.

If you want a true PvP experience you’ll play CoD or Overwatch. There you ‘lol get headshots and PVP that truly text your reflexes, WoW is not that.

Lots of reasons.

The PvP community is the whiniest, most entitled and downright toxic portion of the game’s community, and when this is WoW’s community that we’re talking about, that’s really saying something. Each BG starts with everyone else on the team at a 6/10 on the Salt Meter and it only gets higher as the game goes on, whether you’re winning or losing. You think LoL’s community is bad? You havent seen anything yet.

PvP gear is worthless for any part of the game that isnt PvP. If you want to go out and grind WQs or do some M+ or raids, you need an entirely separate set of gear for it. Alternately, if you mainly do raids/M+, you’ll need an entire set of PvP gear for doing unranked BGs unless your idea of fun is getting deleted in the span of a single stun.

The balance is so all over the place that some classes are literal garbage and others are untouchable gods. I remember back in WoD I played a Frost DK and regularly 1v3’d people in 3v3s because I was so ungodly tanky and did so much damage that there was simply nothing anyone could do to me. Before that I played a BM Hunter in MoP and exploded people with a single Stampede by doing pretty much nothing more than hammering buttons. Why would I waste my time in a competitive PvP setting when class balance like this is the norm instead of the exception, and can often last entire seasons?

Arena is literally just a pillar-humping keep-away game where everyone switches to one target and runs at them while the other team tries to peel, then everyone switches until a single person dies and then everyone leaves. This can either take 30 seconds or 30 years, depending on how awful the balance this season is.

TL;DR PvP is a boring, imbalanced minigame that rewards the screeching sweatlords who are too terrible to play CS:GO and want to feel like they’re good at something. The gear sucks, the community sucks, the gameplay sucks, and the balance sucks. I’m honestly shocked that as many as 10% of the playerbase partakes in the trainwreck that is WoW’s PvP.

PvP generally attracts worst of the humans with their attitude and personalities. People dont want to play with people who disparage others and are unpleasant to be around.

WoW provides good co-op experience with small group content like M+. NPCs do not teabag and grief you.

The simple answer for me is that PVP isn’t even close to balanced so it makes it not fun. I would’ve loved to do more pvp but I dont want to constantly have to swap to the flavor of the month in order to not get completely destroyed.

This expansions pve balance is getting really annoying too. Ive quit wow several times and most of them because I just get sick of how the devs treat the hunter class. Im already close to quitting again if they keep ignoring the sorry state hunters are in right now. In both pvp and pve.

I just don’t find it very interesting, tbh…
PvP is ok once in a while for something to do when I’m bored, but it feels repetitive and I get tired of it quickly. Many PvP activities are just zerg fests.

I did used to enjoy Wintergrasp, back when it was current content in WotLK, and when it controlled access to the raid so there was lots of participation. There enough people knew the strats and had incentive to participate, so it was often quite competitive. Other than this exception, I just don’t have a lot of fun PvPing.

that’s funny I was just talking to my friend yesterday about that. I use to think LoL had the second worst community in video gaming but being able to just drop whatever you’re doing and type out 3 paragraphs of vulgarity is unique to a game like wow where the combat and activity is so slow people don’t feel like stopping for a few seconds is going to change the game and frankly after my encounters with the GMs and reading about the autobot reporting system I have to wonder if anything is being done at all which is contrasted pretty heavily with LoL’s mute/ban system.

in 2 hours I saw 2 people rage in a bg and 1 person tbag me after killing me in wpvp, makes you really just not want to play even before how bad the design and pacing and balance of combat is

I’ve only been playing this expansion for 3 days but looking at the duration of a lot of these cooldowns it starts to make me think that the entire thing is designed around 18 second kill times and in my opinion anything over 3 or 4 seconds is just wasting my time

correct me if I’m wrong but i’m 99% sure that’s why people use to pvp with twinks in the low level brackets because combat was just designed better before blizzard got rid of it

PvP is my jam. But it is unnecessarily punishing. They really shouldn’t have added Rated to this once-RPG now-Esports game.

Rated PvP in WoW is a haven for the game’s most toxic players.

I think many people have tried it, but have been driven quickly away.

cause 2 toons can cc you for 20 seconds at a time as your team mate gets annihilated, not fun at all

Back in vanilla i used to do AV all day as a pally healer and it was great for a time.
In TBC arenas came out and it was fun to compete with my rogue or priest. Also the new BGs were refreshing.
Then when Wotlk came out i dont know, i was more into dungeons and heroics and achievements and raids and maybe did not have anymore a buddy with whom to pvp. So i kind of left pvp all those years, until i decided again to try it now in DF.
Since im more a solo now, being more busy with family, and getting old, i dont have time for organized groups, so for me impossible to be part of a raiding guild or an arena team, or even do mythics.
The only thing left for me is solo content that you can queue solo.
LFG is useless for dungeons as the gear in heroics just sucks. I wished some mythics lvl could be LFG…
So the things i do are

LFR
SS
BGs
I must say i loved it so far. If i knew before that it was so easy to gear up through pvp i would probably have pvped in shadowland. In a week you can be geared up ready for solo shuffle it’s not bad. Only problem is unless i mus play healer otherwise it’s way too long to find a game.
Blizzard must add a mod for solo shuffle where you can compete only dps with no healer for fast queue. And it would be nice to have 2v2 and 4v4.
