Why does the developer team make the choices that they make?

[1] I find forums/reddit to be a fairly accurate representation of how the players feel about major issues, in-game.

[2] While this might be Blizz’s new approach, I’ve come across many new players who are just as bored the veterans or have quit because the spec designs are uninteresting and the game as a whole feels more like a chore.

[5] No one expects perfect balance. The gap being as wide as it is now though surely points to disinterest or incompetence in developing this game.

[7] Their decisions have been disliked by the majority of the playerbase for some time now. That’s why we’ve had endless complaint posts since BfA’s alpha.

I would argue, but there is no point. If you legit think, that a thread with 500 upvotes in anyway speaks for the majority of players, you are delusional. It doesn’t even matter what the thread is about, but guaranteed, there are 500 people that completely disagree that have never been to the forums or reddit.

The balance now, is by and large better than it has been at nearly any point in the game’s history. We will never have perfect balance, because the average WoW player would not know balance if it hit them in the face.

I left because of the state of the game. Removing Pvp Vendor, Removing Flying, Pruning so classes are stagnant. The game has gone backwards since MOP. Which is why I stopped playing it along time ago. Ion was the wow killer. Now there are at least three other MMO’s that offer a better game then post mop wow.

It was in a Q & A where he said that their various systems don’t further the story the way they want and some other things.

To me that tells me that their overarching plan and implementation wasn’t done correctly. The left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, sort of thing.

All of the BFA gameplay choices were done to make this more streamable for the MDI.

The want that sweet sweet twitch viewership ad space, so better make sure little timmy can understand what is happening on screen so lets slow it down.

It also makes it easier for them to develop for because less skill interactions = less work.

Ion and crew seem desperate to prove that the good systems and features of legion were a fluke at every step of the way.

Can only play in windowed mode. Even small things they botched for bfa.

They (higher ups higher then developers) belive the time played and make it more casino like will make people play longer and keep there sub…

Nothing more nothing less…now is it working thats the 64,000 dollar question they have to ask themselves…

I’m going to say yes, because it’s their game.
GCD: slowed down combat a bit and stopped people from being able to put their entire rotation in a macro.

Portals: a portal room had been a community request for a while.

Writing: the dev team don’t write the story.

Class balance: they have acknowledged that they messed up and didn’t give themselves enough time to do it properly.

PvP vendors: ok yea, I’m just as confused as you are.

Flying: pathfinder is a compromise. They wanted to remove flying in WoD, but because of community backlash, instead let you earn flying over time.

Thanks yeah it’s pretty clear that the two story teams didn’t get together enough, or they thought we’d be too stupid to notice the mistakes.
That seems to be a real problem with Blizzard as a whole.

Dev teams don’t even communicate each other. That is why WoW is a mess.

Do you honestly think some suit from Finance, who knows World of Warcraft as a series of line items on a spreadsheet, really told the devs something specific like “take out flying”?

The developers get objectives they have to meet, both in the budget they have and the results they’re supposed to get (increase subscribers, reach a certain metric of “engagement”). HOW they reach those goals is entirely on them.

They all play the Horde, thats why the Horde always make major decisions and the Alliance only reacts to those decisions.

Even though the Horde and Alliance have times of highs and lows always happening, the Alliance are always in the shadow of their rival, the Horde. The Horde always hit back harder or make the next step.

Not true. The general forums are the most PASSIONATE 1% of the player base, both pro and con. Unhappy people are not here making topics about rating transmogs or marrying/divorcing the player below you or asking ages or jobs or making bad jokes.
