Why does Reddit think WoW is P2W?

So having more RAM is also “P2W”?

You people are weird.

No, P2W is a dynamic written into how the game is played. Stop trying to be a lawyer about it. You like P2W, and are trying to cope. No one cares.

It’s more that I think you guys are obsessing about getting gear, without realizing that having better gear doesn’t let you “win” when you’re still a bad player.

People enjoy games differently. Maybe you like playing because of shiny buttons. More power to you. Many play to achieve gear, and that gear is diminished if you can just pay for it. If this doesn’t affect you, then move along. It affects others.

It’s akin to paying to crowd surf someone to the front of a marathon, and then you saying “hey what’s the problem, you can still do the marathon”.

You people are just disingenuous. No real point going through this exercise of lawyerisms with you.

Technically, you can. Since you’re allowed to buy gold > Buy runs through mythic content, get BiS gear, experience all end game content.

But then people start trying to defend the game saying you can’t ‘win’ it and it ‘still doesn’t make you good at the game’ which do not refute the argument you can buy your way to the best power a lot faster than you can trying to get it yourself - and in the case for some runs through content they can’t complete on their own.

Lots of people also get carried by their friends and get gear that way. Does that also “diminish” things? Why aren’t you ranting about things like Friendship Moose?

To me, using real life money in any capacity for something in a video game, outside buying the game itself, is akin to cheating.

You did nothing but give the company your $, and you are blantantly rewarded for it.

I will never understand why people support this idea. It undermines why video games exist to begin with.

They are supposed to be fun escapes from the world, but as soon as people bring real life things like money, it just becomes a crappy mirror of life instead.

Money just ruins everything it touches.

Base line is
The WoW-token is 100% Pay to convenience

It is not 100% P2W
But you can pay to get content cleared, pay for titles, pay for mounts, and the list goes on and on.

Yes you can work for it by yourself, but that can be considered “Inconvenient”

People think WoW is P2W because of Zipfian distribution. The majority of people playing WoW have a singular interest, increasing their main stat. The majority of people subscribed also can not tolerate being in a set progression group. The venn diagram of people who are interested in increasing their main stat but are not interested in being in a set group is absolutely massive. Blizzard designs around this and leverages this to move tokens.

This is why pug content is gravely over-tuned and under-rewarding, to artificially inflate the carry market. You can say “just do this” or “just do that” to fix it and not feel the game is P2W, but this is also intentional. You have endless options for feel good slogans to stay rooted in your cognitive biases, but they don’t work in the math, they have no application in reality.

To understand their POV, you need to understand the genre since it’s foundation in the late 1990’s.

Basically it’s like this, other than socializing you have group content to conquer and the best gear to obtain. Those two things have been a constant in every MMO since the beginning. If you’re able to buy gold, and then use that gold to buy content completion and gear acquisition, then it’s P2W.

Because it requires an extra step to obtain these things and the RNG of loot drops, you can say it is indirectly P2W, not directly. But that’s still enough to trigger someone.

These eggheads do not know what matters in WoW lol. Skills do not matter in this game. What matters in WoW is the numbers you have in your character.

You play WoW to get BiS gears, not for story not for lore and not for world content. WoW is a game that is centered around getting the best loots.

WoWs end game goal is to get BiS and highest ilvl loot. Reaching your end game goal means you win. You can pay to reach your end game goal. You can pay to win.

If you think reaching your end game goal is not considered as winning then I pray you live a good mediocre life without dreams and goals.

What lol? People play for different reasons, gear isn’t everyone’s goal.

…what?

The only thing that would make pug content “over-tuned” is the people not working together as a team.

See paragraph 2, you are doing exactly as I said. You are analyzing it only from the perspective you want to have, and not how the systems play out in reality.

You could hand out BiS gear to a bunch of yahoos from trade chat, and a Mythic end boss will wipe the floor with them every time.

Then youre playing the wrong game. Theres nothing much going on in WoW aside from mount farming and getting end game gears.

If youre not here with the goal of having the best gears then your opinion do not matter at all in this discussion as this topic is for those who understand what it takes to get end game gears and how easy it takes to pay for end game gears.

Technically it is and technically it isn’t. You’re buying gold from the company and that gold can be used to complete the end game. The gold bought from the company belongs to other players though that traded it for a WoW token. So you’re kind of buying the gold from another player and Blizz gets a cut of it.

You cant. Again, your lack of knowledge of the game makes me feel like im talking to a brick wall. Lol. This is the last time i will respond to you but i will leave you some advice.

Before you speak, know what youre speaking about first.

You cannot trade BiS gears as some of them are bind on pick up. You have to pay for boosts in order to get them.

This tells me you have zero idea on how the game is played at all and basically just here to troll and get attention.

Thats pretty funny though! Being able to trade BiS gears

You’re completely missing the point.

You said:

And that’s rubbish. A bad player is a bad player.

My point was that if you could get Q to snap his fingers and kit out 20 players from trade chat in BiS gear, and put them up against a Mythic end boss, that boss would wipe the floor with them.

Skill & Teamwork > Gear

Every. Time.

I generally buy a WoW token every month. I just use the gold to buy things like thread and/or cloth at the AH to make bags for my characters and for members of the guild I am a member of or even players I do not know that need them.

I also use it to fund a new character on a different realm, using their own token.

I use gold to fund a new character, I start every new character out with 10,000 gold.

I do not consider anything I do as P2W.

and if you do…that’s just too bad. Its my game and I will play it the way I want.
