Very simple. Most wow players are simple minded, don’t know how to make a choice for themselves, judge everything by a youtube tier list and think they need a meta comp for a 15 underrot to complete their vault.
edit: meanwhile you do have to UH DK players (like me) who can burst up to 3m dps in an AoE pack, without an Aug buff, without PI or without lust because your tanks know your damage profile and know when you have CDs.
This may just be my ranged bias here, but I feel like melee players are far more willing to reroll.
Sword = Good.
Whereas say, a Warlock doesn’t want to play Shaman even if it is better.
And unfortunately for DK, Ret and Fury is just doing a lot better.
Unholy is a clunky spec that isnt fun to play because there are way too many small things to micromanage
Do you stream? I prefer unholy to frost but share the sentiment of most posters in this thread about the nuisances of playing unh in m+. I’d love to watch you play and learn.
The real reason why Unholy is not played this season is because half the dungeons have bosses with priority targets that need be killed every 30s. Unholy is not just bad, they’re a liability past 20s.
I don’t know why everyone says BH is Unholy’s best dungeon when it’s actually their worst. Good luck killing 2.4mil totems in 7 gcds that spawn every 30s with tank dps outside of 3min cds.

UHDK is very clunky indeed
Its a shame, I remember udk being very popular in keys during early xpac in MDI. I tried out my lowbie geared unholy the other day (it was a left over from the first raid cycly at maybe a higher 390 ilvl). Dps felt really bad, especially compared to my other alts around the same illv. Mechanically the spec doesn’t feel terrible, but still not great (can’t quite put my thumb on it).
frankly i detest it’s mechanical settup with 400 cooldowns and a bunch of mindless minion melees making up a large majority of your damage but that’s just me. i would’ve thought it could lean insanely heavily into diseases but that seems to be the sideshow to your pets playing half the game for you. there’s nothing about unholy that draws me in.

Well I guess I leveled one to max in wrath classic, but other than that one. Never played one passed 65~ back when level caps were over 100.
Anyways maybe it’s because it’s a “fresh” class to me, but I’m having a blast playing both specs. Out of all the classes I’ve played in DF this one seems to be one that is heavy reliant on the CD windows but that’s just helping me understand timings and windows for trash packs and bosses
I haven’t done anything in mythics yet but still having fun.
I think a lot of the issue is people look at x site for a tier list, or see the boys running MDI keys in 13 mins and just default to that. I understand certain things “can’t” be done without X class because of this Y mechanic, but there’s videos of comps
I’ve been in the mindset of “play what’s fun to you” while I was in classic and such and carried that over to Dragonflight and have been having the most fun I have in a WoW expansion since Legion.
