The ability to fine tune my toon to the tune of how I want to play. Mop was great in that I could tweak my toon heavily to favor certain stats over others. It worked well with my partner who did likewise. My Lock could be a speedster, tank or heavy hitter. That is why gear is important because if everyone is the same it is not an MMORPG it is Overwatch. BIG difference.
Only thing I would be on board with is giving fresh 50s a minimum ilvl range. Like if you are under ie 75 it will boost you to 75 but no higher.
People treat pvp and pve the same. Gear progression? Leave that sht at home. Thats a pve element that pvers insist on carrying over so they can mathematically outclass opponents the easy way.
The problem is pvers that happen to pvp are the vast majority of players so they get what they want.
Get your stat templates out of here., it sucked so hard that it almost killed Normal BGS.
It’s bad dude. Like super, super… horribly bad.
Yes. Legion had stat templates and every 10 ilvl boosted your stats by ~1%. People complained.
Then as a shadow priest you should remove your spiteful apparitions as that’s definitely an unfair advantage stemming from gear.
This thread is fantastic, and I love you guys. Only a few people say they don’t want gear to matter in pvp here, but you tell them to just take away gear from pvp and make gear literally have no value and the tune changes to ‘don’t take muh gears’. That’s fantastic.
Gear should absolutely matter in pvp, and I’m hope they completely kick off that scaling training wheel we’ve had. I might actually enjoy pvp for the first time since MoP. I’ve followed pvp this whole expansion considering I’ve finally got a few friends who actively pvp I can actually do it on a consistent basis but have mostly refused because of how pvp works. If things are working like they are suggesting in the beta, I might be spending a lot more time doing it, but the thing is gear shouldn’t be a crutch, but if I’m going against someone in questing greens and I have a full conquest set on, I should absolutely be able to steamroll them without even thinking about it.
The mindset of gear shouldn’t matter though, if that’s the case you might as well take gear out of pvp then because if it doesn’t matter, why should you get any?
Sure, enjoy mobas taking the entire pvp player base because stupid outdated design philosophies, then.
Why is it that every player that has this opinion can’t get the wrecking ball achievement?
Well OP do you think it would be a good idea if we just wanted to do PvE so they gave us stat templates so it was nice and balanced
Nah that would suck
It also sucked with PvP so it lasted the grand total of 1 xpac
You do know LoL is popular and what the strat for that game is happens to be
Get the best items you can
Dunk on noobs
Everyone starts the PvP match on an equal footing 100% of the time.
Yeah
Same with WoW
What’s your point
Huh? When you queue an arena, you don’t start with no gear, you start with gear you already had. Thus, the game does not start with all players on an equal footing every pvp match.
This is honestly the biggest thing. These gear gaps have done nothing but destroy the PvP community and make it smaller every expansion, while equal gear would make it grow instead.
What? MOBAs are an entirely different genre, and is not defined by character progression. They stand for “multiplayer online battle arena”. RPG stands for “roleplaying game”. Your argument means absolute nothing.
When we log onto the game for the first time we are on equal footing
What you do from there is your own choice
If you want to do pvp you have to
A) have the skill set to carry you through lesser gear
B) out gear your opponent to make up for lesser skills
Just pray for pvp vendors
A 1 week grind to be pvp viable is the best option we have
They literally did that in legion and it tanked pvp participation so hard they scrapped it after 1 xpac
We did the test for it and it didn’t work out like you thought it would
Turns out pvp players wanted pvp progression
rubs temples
Okay. Okay…again. They already, tried this in Legion. People hate templates…
If they entry into PvP was so hated, people would’ve hated Cata, MoP and WoD. But instead, since the gear was sooooo easy to acquire, the gearing process for the most part was a non issue. Once you had a full Conquest set, which again was stupid easy to acquire, you were pretty much on equal footing with a Rank 1 player. And at that point it was only your skill that determined how far your progressed in Rated PvP.
It was not bad. This level of entry or “barrier” for entry did not exist.
yes and no, like most things they got stuck in the “you think you do but you don’t mindset” and half assed it, the templates still scaled with ilvl and legon legendaries abilities still worked, combined with the pruning to the ground, essential abilities placed in honor talents- it was a disaster.
Ideally you want none scaling templates with honor talents being stat customization only, not pruned abilities that is needed to make the spec function in pvp.
I mean, I have that but ok. I also have ahhhh…over 100 honor levels and 20% more pvp achievements then you. Like…I consider myself a casual player, but even I atleast have 2k in RBGs >.>
Are you mixing me up with someone else?
PvP =/= PvE
