Why does everyone want to dps?

What do you mean? the easy road is tank or healer? lol

And I say that, as a main tank/healer.

DPS is easy, but as as a tank you basically have an imaginary +200 io above your actual rating, and as a healer you have +400 io above your actual rating. lol

I am glad GD posters do not design this game

Lot people go DPS because they cant cut it as a tank or healers and thought it was easy…ya nope

It’s more than that.

I don’t queue heals but I imagine it’s like being the goalkeeper in soccer. If a ball gets through, you’re solely and completely blamed. It’s a thankless job of whackamole.

Tanking can be fun. In DF I used to do it for TW dungeons. Yes, they were easy. No, I don’t pretend to be a great tank but I knew the dungeons and could pull appropriately. I liked doing it some of the time.

But if you’ve ever queued as a tank you get to know how bad and inattentive other players are. Some examples:

  • Many healers are just terrible. I tended to like queueing as a bear in DF because you didn’t really need them. Between damage mitigation and Frenzied Regen you were pretty self-sufficient. More than a few people would queue heals in DF TW, for example, for faster queues with no ability to actually heal;
  • People just cannot follow you. My default position is “never use a skip in PUGs” but you should at least be able to do basic things like hug a wall to avoid aggro. Like if I’m hugging a wall, maybe you should too. But there’s always at least one who doesn’t.
  • People like to see big numbers and will pop off with all their CDs randomly for something you haven’t pulled yet and then you kinda get blamed for them getting aggro. I kinda think DPS meters are a big of a net negative here.

Anyway, tanks got nerfed in TWW and the tuning is way off. You have to be ever-vigilant where trash can just two-shot a DPS and, as a tank, you’re weaker while things hit harder so you’re more reliant on the healer and, as mentioned, many random healers are terrible. So I haven’t queued tank in TWW at all and I probably won’t for awhile.

Not especially in keys, only in keys. Raid tanking is brain dead almost all of the time.

its just the way they designed things now.

they made tanks and healers far less impactful and made dps way more impactful. dps self heal, have damage reduction, and do big numbers. they are essentially tank/dps/healer rolled into one.

no point in even having tanks and healers anymore with how they are designing the current game.

make all damage avoidable skillchecks and they can remove tank and healer entirely and make it 5 dps. seems like this is where we are headed with their current design philosophy.

i think people pick dps since they can “blend” in and not really have any responsibilities, if you are bad or average - you wont pull aggro and stuff still dies.

Sure you are much squishier as a dps class but its also fun seeing giant booming hits. I play 2 tank classes and I just starting playing a mage (mage is super fun and chill (frost mage pardon the phun) but I noticed I cant do any delv 8s solo as a frost mage (unless I invisa at the right spot to let brann become a “tank”). So I starting leveling up a hunter (pet tanks/dps) and its very relaxing and no stress playing dps. You just have 2 jobs (1 dps, 2 dont pull aggro/die)…

That is true.

Even tho these days I gravitate towards a archetype/class that offers a healer playstyle outside of WoW because I find strictly DPS boring.

I used to like healing up until DF. That’s when it just felt like I was responsible for everyone else’s mistakes without much room to make any of my own.

I’ll tank when there’s some sort of wizard tank.

because healing is probably the hardest it’s ever been and tanking has always been a difficult role to fill with people with a brain.

Edit: Actually now that I think about it the first couple of months when Cataclysm released was probably harder because your heals healed for literally nothing unless you wanted to go out of mana in 8 casts.

its rather difficult to find dps who actually use their self heal or use a defensive. I ran some dungeons and some people didn’t press their defensive once.

It’s always a combination of not using defensives and just standing around in poop on the ground. Most of them are more focused on pumping. lol

Because the degenerates in this game made me stop wanting to tank or heal over their bogus vote kicking crap for no good reason, and their foul behavior when some player makes a petty mistake.
If Im DPSing I can ignore these self interested malcontents more if Im not having to watch them as much

id rather wait in queue for twice the time as DPS
I can run quests while Im waiting.

yeah in a lot of lower end content bad dps get into the habit of never using their self heals or defensives.

This is very true… and made me giggle.

Because their ego is tied to their dps parse.

I’m still gearing/leveling my tanks and healers. (prot war, gdruid, mwmonk, hpriest) My warrior is 580, first one to tank lfr.

I might add resto shaman and veng dh

And the countless threads by ego driven tanks/healers doesnt exist. I doubt you see tanks and healers calling dps worthless at top end keys.

Once yall realize that every role is just as important as the other, you will then be able to push harder and harder content. This archaic mentality that tanks and healers are the most important, and dps are just infants needing to be drug around is insane.

There are objectives around a boss or room that need to be interacted with, the DPS does this. We also CC and interrupt. A tank literally just hits taunt and then goes afk.

If I were to participate in group play again, I would want to tank or heal. However, I don’t find the philosophy behind seasonal mythic+ to be fun. It would be extremely stressful and frustrating so I just don’t do it.

Peoples views and opinions on this are highly shaped by what difficulty they play at most commonly.
