Why does everyone want to dps?

I wish more DPS had that mentality. I feel like oftentimes it’s I hope this group can carry me while I fly under the radar

Insulting people isn’t the best way to start a conversation. For me personally I just prefer the gameplay of DPS, it’s more fun to me than tanking or healing. And contrary to your apparent belief DPS don’t “just turn our brains off”, modern mechanics have us constantly doing extra things, especially melee.

DPS is the “I like to press buttons, see big numbers, and kill stuff quickly” role. It is always the most popular role in any game that features any take on the Tank / Healer (Support) / DPS trifecta because the overwhelming majority of people who play games like this vastly prefer the “I like to press buttons, see big numbers, and kill stuff quickly” role.

I’m fairly certain there have been points in this game’s history where just Ret Paladin and BM Hunter alone had more combined players than the entirety of the Tank and Healer roles combined.

Omg its a video game. I wanna have fun, dps is the most fun role. Thats why i play it and i dont realy know why im beign constantly berated for it by tanks and healers. Do you play your role to feel important or for some sort of god complex or what? You dont play it for fun?

It is obvious that ppl like to play dps way more. Why its the role so riddiculed and talk down. Everyone wannts to play dps coz its fun, so instead of beign rude to ppl that play damage what about trying to male healing and tanking equaly fun?

Tanks need to do homework and healers have to alternate between targeting friends or foes. Those are my reasons anyways.

I apologize if I’ve offended you, I say most of this in jest. I’ve played alittle as a healer, alittle as ranged alittle tank. The majority of my time has been dps. It’s definitely harder than ranged but I wouldn’t put us on no hill either. at a certain point your eyes just roll back and your fingers make magic.

Darn right, I’m a good healer.

I like playing dps too but I don’t think I’ve seen any fingers being pointed a

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen. I like playing dps myself and neither you or I are a representation of our chosen roles as a whole but, we are usually the ones doing the ridiculing.

I love that these threads are always started by a class that can tank.

Because healing and tanking are too much pressure. As a tank you need to be a confident leader who leads the way. Most are not that. Most are followers. Healers, have a huge responsibility to keep people alive. Most cannot do this. Its too much pressure when peoples HP dip suddenly then die. I’ve been asked to heal in guild raid, nope everytime. I know my limits.

i like the lil dps competition on details!

tank and heals have nothing to compare to while run is happening.

it’s half of the fun… i’m not gonna starve myself from 50% of the fun xD

Tanks have to do extra research and are generally the most important people in the instance. You can make up for bad DPS, you can’t make up for a bad tank. It’s just a lot of pressure people don’t want to deal with.

Then healing isn’t usually so unpopular, but the scaling is INSANE this season and it’s so hard to do so people are running away from it in droves. Even I usually like to heal, but this season it’s sketchy.

Big numbers big dopamine

I like tanking. I just hate tanking for other people.

After 12 hours shift at work, I want to DPS. Not healing stupidity, or taking insults. Nope.

The thing is, when you heal or tank you also focus on tuning your numbers and competing with yourself in addition to everything else. Tanks generally feel fine, but healer is really demotivating with how much they nerfed their dps.

In Nathria the guild I was playing with had holy paladins who were doing more damage than the bad DPS. Nowdays you need to be utterly horrible to do less DPS than a healer, and probably also be dead most of the fight, which makes healing feel really unrewarding.

No i just want to kill stuff, tanking and healing i dont feel like im playing the game

I prefer to heal, and if i know the dungeon well, then like to tank, but since i am into alts too much, i tend to avoid M+ and only do LFR and occassional normal.

I think we could make a distinction between turning your brain off due to muscle memory and turning your brain off due to lower demand, maybe?

If I run 100 m+5 keys on my brewmaster, assuming the average skill level for someone at +5s, at a certain point I’m just going through the motions just the same as if I was playing beast master or elemental. Maybe my Outlaw has a more detailed rotation, but with enough consistency I think the gap closes a bit. After all, at a certain level, your rotation is assumed to be one of the bare minimum requirements and the new challenge is teamwork, survival, optimisation and ‘stops’

I would consider that enough to be called “turning the brain off” as I’m reading it as hyperbole.

I think the roles just have different skill floors and ceilings, depending on the content you’re doing. Different specs within the roles will also have varying floors and ceilings too.

I’m defining the floor as “minimum skill required to complete” and the ceiling as “maximum skill potential”.

You could say the dps role has the lowest floor, seeing as there are 3 per dungeon they can cover for each other and at low keys it’s pretty easy to carry a dead weight dps.
However, dps might have a higher or the highest ceiling due to how dps output scales.

Tanks and healers might have a higher floor to meet before they get comfortable, but their ceiling might be lower than the dps as you can’t always solve problems with “more hps” or “more tanking” the same way you can with “more dps”.

Idk, I’m just rambling at this point.

Your Wish is granted. You new tank spec: Earth Warden (Enhancement is removed)

You now have most of your Enhancement Melee capability, but you are given 4 specifics new abilities for tanking…

Elemental Defender - Much like a Brewmaster with their statues, you summon a Defender totem at your feet that reaches a range of 40 meters but only applies to you. Your armor is increased by 20% and Damage taken is reduced by 20%, unless it is Elemental Damage, then it is reduced by 30%. This ability has a 45 second CD and lasts 30 seconds.

Stone Shield - You slam your shield into the ground causing all enemies in a 15 meter range to take 125k elemental damage and are stunned for 4 seconds. This ability is Instant, but has a 3 minute CD.

Lightning Reflexes - You harness the power of lightning to increase your Dodge by 70% for 10 seconds, and any hit that makes it past your Dodge will cause the attacker to take 50k lightning damage and be stunned for 2 seconds. This Ability is instant and has a 90 second CD.

Lava Fury - Magic flows through you, boiling your blood and consuming you like a volcano. This AoE, upon critically striking your target has a 50% chance to create a wave of lava that starts with you and goes out in a circular wave for 15 meters doing 95k fire damage to all enemies. This effect is passive and cannot occur more than once every 90 seconds.

You retain 3 specs, Enhancement is adjusted for tanking, and Ele /Resto remain untouched. Your Tanking tree, much like other tanks with healing specs, will create a path option for instant self heals at a nominal rate similar to Frenzied Regen, or Holy Power.
