Why does Blizzard just... abandon their content?

For example, Renown in The War Within, and World Quest/Activities or Siren Isle.

They have this expansions worth of content, yet there is no reason to engage with it as the rewards are invalidated.

Epic Drops from Siren Isle are lower item level than greens you can buy for 300g on the auction house.

I just don’t understand it. Why don’t they just update the reward structure? It’s so weird to do the Beledar Dailies and not see a single soul here, when this place used to be poppin. It’s such well designed content. I am just baffled at how they “set it and forget it” in terms of content. I would be so depressed if I were on their develepment team to see this happen.

It doesn’t have to give BIS gear, but I mean at least some 613-620 item level loot and some good rewards from Cache’s, updated gear from Renown track, etc.

Edit: It makes me so happy to see many of you having the agreement that the game should be more than just “Current Patch” Of Warcraft. It’s WORLD Of Warcraft, not Most Recent Zone of Warcraft. :love_you_gesture:

Edit Edit: Even something so simple as world bosses… just bump the item level of their loot up to 4/8 Veteran Track… like come on lol it’s so simple.

its worked for the past 20 years, blizzard sees no reason to keep old content relevant now when they havent had to do so the entire time wow has been a thing

It’s not old content.

It’s content from the current expansion…

Also, time for change maybe. Make the game better, it’s so easy to do.

Then make one

This is how they always do it. For gear old content is pointless unless your mog farming

consume, consume, consume.

they are, and have been, on a non-stop bullet train of developing as crudely as they can get away with it just to keep delivering their “faster content” schedules.

This is what happens when you turn an RPG into a seasonal game.

And this is exacerbated by the fact that it attracts a lot of players that love the concept of seasonal gaming, so they can dip out after month until next season. And the circle keeps feeding itself.

It isn’t OLD content this is THE CURRENT EXPANSION Lol

I’m not asking them to go and update reputations from Warlords of Draenor with current ilvl loot.

(However, that would actually be pretty sick not gonna lie).

All they have to do is put “some” (define this however you want) gear on a vendor, and have all current, but “not active” content provide currency for that vendor.

So do some dailies on Siren Isles, do some Beledar dailies, and do some other whatever … and you can earn a 610 piece of gear. How would that be worse than killing a Rare in Undermine and getting the same thing? It’s not like 610 gear is going to break anything, when M4 groups are demanding 650. :stuck_out_tongue:

They’ve shown they can do this. Late in DF, they refreshed some world events to give better gear. It helped revive the world. Would be nice if they did that with each season.

Technically it isn’t current content.

This is how they artificially move the herd into the content they want. They only way to get the majority of people to stay in Undermine, is to make the rest of the zones somewhat irrelevant. It forces you to engage with the new content.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with your premise. Blizzard is its own worse enemy when it comes to emptying the world.

They update world event gear for new seasons. Like they did with Dreamsurges and Fyrakk Assaults.

Siren Isle was just rehashed filler content on a closed off island.

Updating the rewards of a quick catch up island isn’t really something they would do. It’s the beginning of a new season.

Exactly. It’s so simple…

But caches from world activities is giving season 2 gear.

???

Agreed. This did happen, although IMO WQ gear is a bit too low for how big the jump was between seasons. ilvl 600 is wild considering new LFR drops start at 623. That’s too high of a gap.

I’ll also add that Heroics gear I believe got refreshed too? I don’t remember to what ilvl.

What? My only deathless Mythic was a +4 Darkflame, and none of us were anywhere near that. The tank was ~625. I was healing at the time sitting around 640-ish.

It was kind of a meme-joke about the reality that MOST M+ groups are going to ask for absurdly high iLevels for any Key, even easy Keys.

I wasn’t trying to be exact.

One is a WQ. One is end game raid. Of course there’s a big difference.

Normal dungeons drop 593. Heroic dungeons drop 619. M0 is 636.

Weekly caches drop 623.

World Quests are right where they should be.

Perhaps. I disagree because it doesn’t consider the currency situation when upgrading.

But it is what it is.

I think Normal Dungeons should’ve been bumped to 600 and WQ to 610 to bring everything more close to where it is more accessible to people to jump back into endgame. I would even go as far as to say that Heroics should’ve been bumped to 623 as well. Again, just my opinion.

correct, you’re not intended to be able to farm trivial content for current endgame rewards

I think it ultimately comes down to not wanting to split up the playerbase. They want most people in Undermine right now, so they don’t want to have to pull people in a bunch of different directions.

It would be nice to have old (though this isn’t technically old) content have some sort of purpose at max level. Like a weekly quest to do tasks in old content for something else. I think thats what they’ve tried to do with the trading post.
