Compared to most of the other low res old model mounts, Ashes really stands out as remaining pretty good looking even in 2020.
Is it just the colors and lighting?

It’s because it’s 100% fire. If it was anything else it would look like doodoo.
I honestly never use it. None of my characters look good on it
If I ever got it, I wouldn’t either. Mostly for spite.
ashes of alar is the most fantastical mount ever designed. it screams fantasy. best mount and its 14 years old!
To be honest, Ashes of Al’ar looks real dated, like all 13+ years old mounts.
But I guess the ribbons of pink energy that no other mount has maintain some of Al’ar’s freshness.
i was in elementary school when it was fresh
Because it is so bright, it is literally light and fire, very little in the way of textures to make it look that badly dated.
You can’t see it’s 5 pixels if it’s too glowy for them to actually be visible.
In actual model quality, the Pandaren CM Phoenixes are far superior.
They should give it an update.
Because its made of light/fire.
they did they made the purple one from the guild vendor
No, I mean a resolution update to it.
Really? because for me is one of the old “awesome looking” mounts that holds up really badly. It’s textures and shape are really bad IMO.
Mounts like the raven lord hold up much better.
Ashes is ok.
Personally I like the Bloodflank Charger.
As much as I like the mount, I never use it. At some point I stopped using mounts that have no ground-specific animation.
I wish my characters didn’t look weird on it. I feel like blood elves look the best on it! But I don’t enjoy playing blood elves
because of the gorgeous trailing colors from the wing tips
(But this is coming from a burning crusade baby who did TK over and over and the phoenixes were my favorite)
I wanted it, however after like 105 attempts I said “It’s not worth it.”
it’s glowing and hiding lowres textures and polygons
