Thrall screwed up almost from start to finish, then bailed when he embarassed himself with Garrosh and tried to ignore Sylvanas as long as possible.
He didn’t build the modern Horde, it’s a product of the philosophies of the Tauren and Darkspear more than anything he did. It’s clear he doesn’t understand the modern Horde or he would have seen the flaws in Garrosh long before.
Thrall is an idealist. Naive in a lot of ways, and shuns his responsibility when it’s inconvenient.
Varian Wrynn warning the Horde - “We will end you!”
What we got:
Anduin Wrynn - Skipping through Orgrimmar singing “Why can’t we be friends…why can’t we be friends?” followed by Orc Children in a Conga Line of Kumbaya singing “It’s a small world aaaaaaafterall, it’s a small, small world!” in counterpoint.
Regardless, everyone liked him as warchief when he was warchief. It’s funny seeing him talked down so much now…what a shift in perspective over the course of his absence.
The Alliance does not hate Anduin but rather the disappointing way in which he and other Alliance leaders must have their actions narrated as if they were idiots, so as not to obliterate the Horde in just 10 minutes of combat.
We hate the unintelligent way he has to act!
And your unnecessary position, like High King!
But otherwise, he’s a good character, with a good lore, blunted by the story of BfA.
Because he was there for the WCIII crowd and he was a glorified quest giver. He was the counterpart to Babi Anduin. What a strenuous job that was, being a better faction leader than a smol child.
Saurfang was more of a leader than he ever was, at least Saurfang tried to mentor Garrosh. Thrall was blinded for his adoration of Garrosh’s daddy.
I couldn’t stand Thrall when he was around and I was thrilled when Green Jesus was written out of the story.
The only Alliance that hate Anduin are the ones who want to see the Horde as a faction completely destroyed outright, irrespective of how much war and death it would cause. They also tend to be the ones who want High Elves Alliance side too.
I don’t want to see the Horde destroyed, I want a good old fashioned war with you. I also want nothing to do with High Elves being playable on the Alliance.
That’s fair. Saurfang was the one I wanted leading after WotLK personally (despite his age).
I think of Thrall as more of a middle ground between Anduin and Varian, personality wise. Definitely screwed up a lot by the end, but w/e, I still like the character.
Just going back to my original point (that you personally were not responding to), I still think of Thrall when I think of a leader in WoW…just one of multiple examples. And Anduin as a character still earning his place (despite his status).
without jaina he would of killed himself. we all know jaina won’t let him die either she would sacrafice her self for him.
i hate him although i dont play alliance anymore because the way they write him is just dumb. like yes we get that he is young and inexperienced as a king even as a prince at the time but you don’t need to write him to look more dumb then what he really is.
it’s like saying your an only child your mom works full time but dad makes most of the money and all of a sudden he passes away so your mom struggles a lot to make ends meet thus you are forced to take on bigger roles and help out maybe get a full time job + go to school or w.e.
you can’t expect anduin to have xperience as a king when he was only a prince after his dad died. with all the bs going on with sylvanas he is forced to gain experience and mistakes at a rapid pace from where he once was. this helps him mature as a leader though and in the end hopefully they will write him off better.
i don’t hate him to say but i hate the way the do main characters dirty. just like with voljin how tf you can tell me he died from demons spearing him but the poison killed him? you know how many times those demons hit me yet somehow im magically alive just because im the “chosen savior” super generic way to write stories imo.
I like Anduin, but I don’t think he should be leading the Alliance. It’s dumb that Blizzard has set up the leader of the Grand Alliance as a hereditary position. Plenty of leaders are way more qualified than Anduin is to lead the Alliance.
I’m in this boat as well. I like Anduin. I’ve technically watched him grow from a boy into a man, into a king.
I wish they would write us better, but Anduin is very much not the problem with the Alliance. We have a faction leader who reluctantly resorts to violence. There’s nothing wrong with that as a characterization.
If you want to see bad characterization, look at Gen Greymane. Is he a worgen fighting against his baser urges and deep-seated curse-based rage? Or is he a wise elder leader advising the king of stormwind and high-king of the alliance through the darkest days the alliance has ever experienced?
I don’t hate Anduin at all. I actually like him. But he is so very, very young and he just hasn’t had enough life experience yet to make him really interesting. He’ll get there.
Also, I’m still deeply in mourning for Varian. Makes it hard for me to really like seeing anyone else on the throne.
