Why do you play a male character?

I was wondering to those who are guys in real life, why do you play male characters and not female?

I know usually the opposite question is asked frequent, however I never see it asked this way.

For me personally, the reason why I choose to play female characters when given a choice is because I am straight. I like females, they are aesthetically pleasing to look at, etc.

Then there’s the opposite, I am not gay or bi, so the thought of staring at a dude’s backside all day long and playing dress up with that man, or worse, running around naked as a dude, is very unappealing and/or disgusting to me.

Another reason, Females in wow have more transmog options, everything from skimpy outfits to big bulky and spiky armor and everything in-between while the male variants are limited, especially the skimpy outfits which often appear completely different, non-skimpy, on males (thank god).

So in otherwords, The reason why I choose to play female is for aesthetic reasons and I guess basic attraction. Females are just more pleasing to the eye and don’t make me want to vomit as like if I had to stare at a male’s disgusting hairy body all day long.

How about you? What is your view?

-edit-
P.S. do not read inbetween the lines, the above is purely my personal preference, so do not think that if you choose to play a male character and are a male in real life, in no way shape or form am I calling you gay for doing so.

I simply like to play as any of my original characters regardless of their gender.

Buddy if you’re biggest thrill is staring at a blue hooves woman

You got bigger problems than worrying about why guys play guys

Meh for me it depends on the race. Like tauren, I prefer the male model.

Draenei, always female. Takes a special person to play male draenei.

Because I can.

I think you have some real issues if you think staring at a male, fictitious, digital character makes you homosexual.

I don’t really pick characters based off gender. I typically go off their animations and emotes.

So you play with the camera facing your character the entire time

Sounds like you have several issues actually

Ummm I am a male, so I play a male.

I couldn’t play a female because I could not identify myself as a female.

Play all the things.
I have the whole game available to me, why wouldn’t I do everything? That wouldn’t be getting my money’s worth.

as mentioned as with the male characters “the thought of staring at a dude’s backside all day” should tell you my camera is in the default position, behind the characters… so dunno about you, but i’d prefer to stare at a chick’s butt all day long, not some gross hairy dude’s as5.

such as staring at a dog all day long? no thanks.

Never put much thought into it. I have a nice mix of both male and female characters for no particular reason.

it’s not that deep

Someday you’ll be secure with your sexuality and you won’t have to blindly sexualized everything to defend your orientation

Ideally, you’re actually looking at everything around your character. Like that fire you shouldn’t be standing in. Or the flagged enemy player running at you. Or the cliff you’re about to run off.

If you spend your entire game staring at your character and nothing else, maybe a lovely character editor program like the dressing room on WoWhead is more your speed?

This is an RPG and when I’m role playing I’m male. I know some people want to pretend to be a girl but that ain’t for me.

I used to play male as a kid. At some point I made this character, and I’m not sure why I made it a female but it stuck. Then I decided I liked female Draenei and Lightforged Draenei.

Sometimes I like guy models, other times female are better. Depends I guess?

Because all you hussy folk have no beards…hic!
