Interesting. Fair enough.
i love range dps but most importantly just magic related stuff. before WoW i’ve always went to the mage classes mainly because that was the healers but also because of the gear. they had that gandalf generic look to the gear which i love.
there are things i hate about my mage like to me i feel forced into 1 spec only cause usually the other 2 are subpar. other then that not much they can handle their own. oh i also hate RoP. man… can we PLEASE get rid of that spell for good already?
either way though i like every class for what they are. mage wise is probably the only dps class though that im interested in actually playing all 3 specs thus why i still like them the most.
This is sort of where I’m at with Sin rogue right now. It’s fun but I kind of just want to blast things.
Biggest problem in PvP I can see is being able to create space effectively, but Ik that will come with practice
Mage always has something to do. Maybe there’s some secret to rogue that I don’t know about, but when I play rogue I spend half the fight waiting for energy to come back so I can actually do something. That’s never an issue with mage, because you are always casting.
I wanted to post this because it’s exactly how I feel in pvp with my mage lol. I just didn’t want to be negative.
Utility.
Blinks, Portals, Slow Fall, Buffs, CC, Refreshments and more, is there anything a Mage can’t do?
Plus they have flashy effects with cool sounds like Arcane Explosion and Missiles.
I like the concept of a shut in nerd that mostly just reads books. Find that relatable for some reason…
I also like purple colors and burst damage
Heal in combat
I finally decided to gear up this mage in preparation of SLs and I’m shocked that the blink heal Azerite perk isn’t baselined for Arcane.
Filed once again under the “Blizzard giveth, Blizzard taketh away” heading, although we’ve gained a LOT from the new changes, we’re taking HUGE survivability hits losing the azerite traits. Something that will be keenly felt in pvp for sure.
Yeah I was readin’ that clearcasting proc rate thread and it has me a bit worried. Before I geared up and got the proc rate azerite perk, I didn’t get that many clearcastings.
I haven’t looked at the conduits, but…still a bit worried about what we might be losing. The blink one should be baselined, I really enjoy it as a heal especially if I don’t have mechanics to dodge and use it just to keep myself topped off.
Side tanget, I wonder if using Frostbolt will have any impact in PvP vs. just using slow. It’ll be nice to have something to cast if you get spell locked, outside of that do you think it’ll be useful?
I can’t fathom a situation where it would be preferable over arcane blast or missiles save the spell lock. Most of the “un-pruning” really doesn’t make us any better off given how each spec is still it’s own element.
As for clearcasting, I had the same issues pre trait. Given how CC is now tied to mana spent and the spec still encourages staying above 70% mana outside of major burns, I don’t see AM being all that amazing. I was going to swap from rule of threes to amplification, but that seems unlikely now.
The complete loss of self healing really seems like the death knell in pvp. Once again, “balancing” via borrowed power comes back to bite us in the rear.
In every kind of fantasy or sci-fi game or setting, I’ve allllllllways played some form of magic user. They just feel like the the strongest by far and magic is just cool I guess xD
It’s what I would pick if it was a class irl hahaha
Mage up to 412ish ilvl and I’ll get him more geared with the prepatch gearing events.
Worried about this for PvP though, since thats mainly what I’d be doing with him
For me it’s all about class identity. At the end of the day (for me) this game is an RPG. I want to be a mage/wizard. That’s the archtype/role I also want to play.
Because its a safe bet. Ive been playing wow since early tbc, and mage was my first character. The class is always strong, there is always at least one mage spec that’s top tier in pvp and pve, and I love the convenience of teleport.
It’s also a good class to blindly pick as a main for a new expansion. I can’t think of a single moment in wow’s history when mage was “bad”, and in the rare moments in which multiple specs underperform, blizzard will literally trip over themselves rushing to fix it while the playerbase berates them on the mage forums.
Yup, this is why I shelved my hunter and decided to main rogue and alt mage. They are always consistently in the meta one way or another which is fun for me, and I love both of the class fantasies.
I can’t wait till I can gear more in the prepatch event and actually play him in Shadowlands, although I’m just now getting a hang of fire and I’m sad to switch.
It looks like Arcane is looking the best right now? Not sure which covenant to take either.
I dunno, frost is looking quite strong for pve and pvp. Both are looking leaps and bounds better than fire tho
Cauterizing blink is still sort of going to be there, as an endurance conduit that gives you an absorb shield for 15s after blinking. Kind of an upgrade, kind of a downgrade. Better for group content, worse for solo.
Oooh that’s the Legion legendary isn’t it? That thing was pretty dope. If you choose Shimmer and consume both, does the shield stack or does it override the previous one?
If that’s the case then why not baseline the one that heals when you cast an instant spell? Sorry I haven’t looked at conduits that much so sorry if something actually exists.
