Nothing of yours was taken, nothing was given away. You still have your mount, you still have your achievement. Other people getting to obtain the mount doesn’t change that. Stop being so dramatic over a video game.
Also, read what you agreed to. You lease your account from Blizzard. Nothing on your account is actually yours.
I have Benediction’s appearance because I have it on my undead priest. I still have the actual weapon and I will never get rid of it.
I would not be upset if players had a way to earn the appearance again. Even better if they added an updated high res appearance for it that others could get.
I think some things should remain only for those who earned them at the time, such as collector’s edition stuff.
I think if the mage tower appearances come back, they should be done with an updated mage tower that is just as hard as the old one.
I think the 20th anniversary event is a perfect time to allow people to get things from previous anniversary events. Like if you’re going to do it at any time, the 20th is THE time to do it.
There’s an old saying that goes along the lines of “Don’t keep doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result”.
Now here’s another reality of life. When dealing with companies, never assume they will do anything the way you want them to do it unless you have a contract. Specifically, never assume that an offer of something “exclusive” will remain “exclusive” unless you have a contract binding them to that understanding.
The fact that we are not dealing with anything real, makes that even more important.
I mean so far you’re the one who is the “Strives for nothing” because you say you don’t want to put in effort to do something because years later, someone might be able to get a video game thing easier. Given what you said, you didn’t even get those things when you thought they wouldn’t be invalidated and thought they would be exclusive. So who is the real “strives for nothing” ? The dudes having fun getting things in video games regardless if someone has an easier time getting them later? Or the dude who refuses to do anything because someone might have an easier time later? Spoiler alert, it’s you. At least from what you’ve said in this thread.
Okay. I mean you had that trophy for 4 years. You aren’t harmed compared to the players who benefit from this.
I have lots of unobtainable things like transmog/titles and I wouldn’t care if they came back. Because someone elses ability to enjoy something I enjoy is more important to me then my ability to brag that I have it and they don’t.
I think the last time this topic came up was for remix making it easy to get some boss mounts. Same as before same as again, this is as someone who had a handful of them already (Ji-kun, Astral, and Heavenly Onyx), it doesn’t matter. Acquiring them in Remix required more effort than acquiring them in retail once they were soloable legacy content.
People who already had the old stuff won’t need to do extra work to acquire them, that’s the reward for having already obtained them.
When did I say that? Ill tell you, I didnt. Nice try though.
And youre right, I dont have some of those things, you read really well. Im surprised. I dont have some of those things because I wasnt playing back then, not because I chose not to get them. And yet here I am advocating for Blizzard not to give these kinds of things away to people would did not earn them, as they have increasingly been doing with all kinds of previously “exclusive” or “rare” items.
And thank you for defining what fun is for everyone. I didnt realize that achievement collectors and item collectors werent having fun in their own way. Thanks for clearing that up for everyone.
The “strives for nothing” folks, like yourself, want everything handed out to them for free. They think they are all deserving but, like everyone else before them, you should have earned it yourself. And if you cant anymore, you dont deserve it, sit down, be quiet and collect the stuff that you can actually earn now.
I’m sorry, can we just re-confirm what we’re talking about? The things we’re discussing were given away, for free, for being subbed at the time and logging in.
I mean, at least Diablognomis has a point on this one with the slime cat (As much as frankly I think “Playing during Shadowlands” was enough of a challenge that people will probably respect that more, in the same way one respects the conviction of Ahab dooming everyone around him to hunt the Whale). But, we’re talking about an anniversary pet you got for logging in during a timeframe. There was no accomplishment here.
Unless you’re arguing about Hatespark as opposed to the bear or Onyxian whelp because, yeah, Molten Core was rough when it happened, but that’s the only one we can have this discussion about. They’re not bringing back the ZG mounts, they’re not bringing back pre-patch armor (Despite how much I’d like the teal judgement but I would rather pull teeth than level a paladin in Vanilla), they’re not bringing back AotC mounts. They’re bringing back a reward for ‘Thanks for playing’ at the same time of year they had it originally.
I have an OG Imperial Quilen and I don’t even care about it being buyable now, I could still link the feat of strength if I really cared. I have the Molten Corgi and I don’t care. I wouldn’t even care if the Warlord’s Deathwheel was obtainable again if they could get around the legal stuff with the motorcycle company or whatever.
I just don’t get it man. Isn’t knowing you got it back when it was new enough?
