Trickster fox people have had a lot of roles in folklore and legend all over the world. Kitsune. Reynard. Brer fox.
I think the Japanese lore exceeds even European:
Reposting your link for easy clicking because I can.
It changed the atmosphere of the game for them I believe. They really went outside the box on that expansion. MoP is my favorite expansion though.
“No, you dont get it, Asmongold isnt really a bad person, he just acts like a bad person 100% of the time! Its totally different bro!”
They add in so many races that don’t make sense and it does dilute the identity of what made wow, wow. Pandas, Vulpera, all races that shouldn’t be in the game. But everyone’s opinions differ I’m sure.
Nothing about those races ‘doesn’t make sense’.
Honestly, there’s more suspension of disbelief involved in undead at this point.
I’m a big undead fan and they’re one of my favorite races in the game but they logistially make the least amount of sense. Their only home was blown to smithereens, they have no way to make more undead, and we canonically know that they are rotting and lose their ability to function over time.
They make the least amount of in-game sense.
(I love you though undeads.)
Yes they did. I won’t lie, I laughed at the memes. I had a picture I shared on Facebook with a cute panda and some Pokémon because I think MoP introduced pet battles as well. People had something to say about that too.
And I was pleasantly surprised, I loved MoP. But I did go in thinking it would be a laugh and a half. And sometimes it was, in a good way.

And yet, when he does charity, it is usually to receive abuse from the audience. Kids these days never would have survived a Don Rickles sketch and fail to recognize one when they see it.
Tauren have been here since day one.
Is it the guy that’s eternally in shambles because he used to flirt with all female chars because he assumed they were played by women irl? I wonder if he’ll ever recover from being a weirdo creep.
The reasons I play vulperas are (in this order):
- It’s an allied race and they start at level 10.
- Those racials, yeah! Bag space! Make camp!
The reason I don’t have more vulperas is that they can’t be druids.
Furries play no role in my choosing to play vulperas. I have no concern about people who are furries.
Why do you listen to those streamers? They are bullies, and do anything they can to get attention.
Just enjoy your characters and have fun.
Those people don’t mean bovine excrement. Right?
Yep, But he specified “European”, and so I focused on that. I might have mentioned Aesop, to take it back further, but there’s this whole big story cycle around Reynard.
It’s not a mistake that Disney conflated those stories with Robin Hood, as that legend was more or less contemporary with them.
Anthropomorphic animals, very specifically inclusive of Fox as an archetype, is as core as European culture exists, and has been since the High Middle Ages - incidentally, the period we see caricatured in the standard “Medieval Fantasy” setting to which WoW defaults.
It’s hard to make any kind of case that fox folk are antithetical to the setting.
A ninetailed fox is not anything like a vulpera. A vulpera is literally a deranged creation of a furry mind.
Mhm stuffed animals in the Warcraft universe totally belongs. You’re right.
Yup. My point was just that WoW doesn’t have to only focus on European myths because it already has things like Pandas/Brokers/Ethereals/Shamans.
But European myth alone has exactly what he was claiming was absent.
I like Vulpera. If your talking about asmon, he also dislikes Anime. It’s like a joke for him to point out his distaste in those things to his fans who like to torture him with those things sometimes.
I consider it a type of humor he brings with his dislike for furry races or anime.
It’s like if your dad says he hates Justin Bieber but you play it in loud in the car as he is in it. It’s funny.
Why wouldn’t they? Is that really your only justification lol?
We’ve had tauren since day 1 and they’re as fluffy and peaceful as you can get. Not seeing a problem.
I think it’d help if picking something other than Human or Elf didn’t distort and clip armor to the point of visual absurdity. Just feels like a major oversight in design…
I’ve noticed the more passionate fans choose non human races.
