Ran into this for the first serious time the other day. Bear tank in a 14 AD or something. He was terrible. I spent the entire dungeon marking him, he spent the entire dungeon unmarking himself. It became a little mini-game and was quite easy to outplay him, given his ability.
I’ve now made a macro for it so I can spam the living crap out of it.
I mark myself every time I tank (and I usually tank). Why? Because I know it helps dps and healers to pay more attention to their rotations and mechanics, and use an absolute minimal amount of attention to know where the tank is at all times. A blue square on the tank works wonders for this. Especially if you have a fast tank.
I usually mark the healer too, so I can use minimal attention on knowing their location and if any mechanics happened to them that I need to get them out of.
To my mind, it’s simply an optimal way to play. Helps a lot with awakened mobs too, when dragging/los’ing them etc. And in my experience most people agree with this, and like it.
If someone is so terrible at the game that they can’t do mechanics with a symbol above their head, that’s the least of their issues and i’m mark-spamming them regardless. If they leave the key, great, because that’s what they deserve and we’ll find a better player and not deplete the key.
Another annoying thing is people with auto-marking weakauras. Most commonly used by players who have no idea what mobs they should be focusing or interrupting, even with crutches like this.
You know the ones, we’ve all seen it. You pull a pack and every damn thing gets instantly marked, but the players that use it have never allocated marks to anyone, because they’re idiots. This messes with any actually important marks that have been put out.
