Yes, like I said. If you did your farming along with your leveling, and saved your gold, it didn’t take too much longer after you hit max to afford your flying. Much easier than pf.
I’ve only done Pathfinder for Draenor, so I don’t know what it looks like for the other XPacs. I like the idea, but the execution is overkill. Some of the achievements have nothing to do with flying or traveling. I get the exploration and quest achievement requirements, but the rest seem unnecessary.
Pathfinder killed the game for me.
I was halfway through doing zandalar for the first time, figured I’d get pathfinder on my alliance, (thought it would take some time, would prevent me finishing all the story as quickly)
got pathfinder… totally don’t want to play any more. I just feel disillusioned. I cancelled my subscription this monday just gone.
Draenor is the hardest one. Legion and BFA are simpler.
I would agree with that but if, and that’s a big if, we are going to have both systems at the same time, buying it with gold shouldn’t be so expensive that pathfinder becomes a faster route. It would defeat it’s purpose.
If Blizzard reverts it back to gold only, then they could charge as much as they think is reasonable imho. As I said before, I’d rather spend double the time doing things I want to earn gold.
I didn’t even get epic flying in BC because the price wasn’t worth it to me. I can’t imagine making that decision now, it’d have to be like 500k.
Flying made it so much easier to farm that it ended up being way worth it to me. Pockets were never empty for the rest of the xpac.
I think they should have both, the ones who purchase it can have it at the same time as pathfinder, then it’s up to you if you want to buy it or have done the pre-req for it, but if you buy it, it’s not account wide and must buy it for each character until you complete the achievement.
I wouldn’t say insanely high, but since the Brutosaur was 5 million…it isn’t out of the park strange that those people that got it would be the same demographic that would buy the flight skill.
But in my mind something like that would be fair. Then you have to make a decision, buy it or just get it for free and account wide via achivement.
I’ve completed pathfinder with two characters. Each of them had around 50k gold by the time. I said I was willing to spend twice the time to get flying, not 50 times. Specially when professions are dead.
People that buy the Brutosaur are the ones that have more than 30 alts, loads of cash and will do pathfinder regardless. Buying should be attractive to people like me who have no more than 3 active alts.
I wonder if the Developers will keep pathfinder in the new expansion. To be clear, I have never had a problem gaining pf and viewed it as something to work towards a long with all the other things In this game.
It favors 1 playstyle that not all players enjoy.
You are not just playing the game to your standards, you’re playing by Blizzards design to get said achievement.
For me just playing the game entails wpvp, duels, battlegrounds, arena, dungeons and raids.
I can’t get pathfinder through these means so saying “just play the game” is ignorant and far from the truth.
I think there should be two options to aquire flying, you either buy it with gold or do pathfinder.
If you get pathfinder you can fly on all toons, if you choose to buy it the downside is that you have to purchase on each of your characters.
Let there be player choice.
How is jumping through hoops to get pathfinder any different than jumping through hoops to find the money to buy flight?
Don’t think of you, think of the general populace.
Almost every activity directly or indirectly gives gold. PF requires specific things that you wouldn’t have to do to enjoy any of the endgame content out there.
And most of that activity doesnt even cover repair costs
I have more cash flow with less work now than ever, so I guess that’s a YMMY situation.
And yet I still don’t have a lot of gold.
You are jumping through hoops having fun.
One of the best times I had in WoW was earning gold for a mount in BC. As an alchemist I found out that an item made with motes of elements (forgot it’s name) was highly sought after. So I had places I would go to get the mats easier (that I found out), some I would buy from the AH, and sell the complete product at the AH.
Other people were selling it too so there was a price battle. Sometimes when the item was priced too low I would buy it and resell it at my price. It was a blast.
There were many other ways to earn gold, that was the one I found the most fun.
I had to be creative and actually use my brain. Today I feel like a robot doing chores.
Exactly, both are bad.
Pathfinder has the pro of being account-wide while gold has the pro of no time gating.
I’d say keep the pathfinder, without the time gate and rep grind.
And if waiting is the real point, then make it grant flying for single character so each character that wants to fly has to explore and do the zone story quests and then unlock it account wide at a future patch.
Playing the game normally - months and months worth of rep grinds.
Sorry, i played Vanilla, TBC, Cata and MOP without doing rep grinds at all. I still enjoyed the game because none of it was mandatory. I only did the rep grinds in WOLK as I enjoyed the expansion that much…
The problem with selling PF for gold is that Blizzard sells gold ipso facto they sell a key game mechanic for cash. My problems are mainly the length and tasks but I understand there is probably a need to have some other way to attain flight. Probably outside the scope of the topic but interesting material.
