Draenei and elf ladies are the nicest to look at. ![]()
Honestly curious, do you think what you find âattractiveâ is strictly based on a biological/evolutionary âanimalâ level? Or do you think that society plays a role in defining âattractiveâ at all?
The proportions.
People like them and they are hot, there isnt a 4d chess plot behind the reason for it.
I donât prefer elf women. No muscle, practically sticks.
But the waggle⌠there is no resistence in game that can resist that.
Well this is certainly different from the usual, âWhy would you play a human in a fantasy game?â type thread. ![]()
I have nearly 50 years of D&D characters running around in my head, and I like finding the closest way possible to represent them in this. Some are much closer than others.
I believe it the greater majority comes from the biological/evolutionary âanimalâ level. A small, very small, fraction may come from societal influences. Making the claim that society has a greater influence leans towards the claim that society âmade someone gayâ or the old argument that people could be trained to ânot be gayâ. I believe gay people are born that way, thatâs who they are. A gay man isnât influenced by society to prefer other men.
Honestly THIS. Itâs pretty much one of the hard factual reasons why most people play some form of Elf or human over anything else⌠nothing else honestly looks quite right in WoW armor the way itâs put together and thatâs a shame, cause several MMORPGs some as old as WoW can do better with the armor mesh/base on non-human races.
Iâd love to be a Draenei male or something else, but till they can 1. wear most shoes like everyone else and 2. donât ridiculously stretch and distort armor like all the other bulkier races⌠Iâm kinda stuck with ElfâŚ
When you heal I find itâs best to stand out. The other team will find you, your team wonât notice unless you stand out. Cute heals get peels.
First, if 95% (I know you said a small fraction comes from societal influences, so Iâm using 95% here for the amount of attraction that is biological. If you think this is inaccurate, please correct me) of attraction is biological, why have we seen such widely varying portrayals of what is âattractiveâ both in men and in women over time? Even if we just use Western beauty standards, theyâve changed A LOT over over the 400 years alone. Wouldnât a biological basis provide more consistency over time?
Second, âwhat you like about a personâ and âthe gender you likeâ is a bit of an apples and oranges situation. These arenât comparable because I think most peopleâs taste in their preferred gender of person has changed A LOT more than their preferred gender.
Wait we do?
If the Lightforged Draenei shared the hairstyles and horns with the regular ones, Iâd play the regular draenei.
But, I prefer the hairstyles and horns of the lightforged- so I am lightforged.
I would love for the Draenei to share hairstyles as well as horn shapes.
Also, lightforged have gold on the bottom of their hooves. They just have better looking options overall.
But I prefer the skin colors of the regular draenei. I think the lightforged skins are meh and could use more color variation instead of just pale, pale, pale, pale, greenish, pale, pale, creamy brown.
Void elves also have better hairstyles and I love their accent over blood elves.
If blood elves & void elves shared hairstyles, Iâd still play a void elf. Because tentacles and the better accent.
Yeah, if we hadnât changed. A lot of changes have taken place within ourselves over the last 400 years, Iâm kind of surprised that you wouldnât have taken such things into consideration. Men are at an all time high of lower testosterone levels at much younger ages, numerous and widespread food tolerance issues, new disease, this list could go on for another paragraph. All of these things are going to play a role in our everyday life, how we feel about things, and what we like.
It isnât. We arenât âtrainedâ to like certain things, we like what we like. If we could be trained to like certain things then weâd all have an almost exact preference.
Pretty much this, playing human is like looking at my mum, at least the 4 OP mentioned are nice to look at.
Yes. Consider the way that many Renaissance painters drew women that we would consider âfull figuredâ or even âburlyâ in the nude as subjects of desire. You can compare that with the daintier women of pre-revolution France who powdered their faces and wore high wigs. Then compare that to a more âtannedâ Kardashian (I know sheâs Armenian so she isnât tanned, Iâm using the word to illustrate the kind of ideal she represents) who is also more curvy. Do you really think all those women look the same?
Gasp! I would never reveal my insecurities online in such a manner as this.
Wait you really think weâve significantly evolved/biologically changed on a fundamental level over a mere 400 years? Iâm kinda surprised you think humans evolve like WoW elves do when exposed to a different type of magic. How do you substantiate your claim that men are at all time lows? What kind of records track that and how far back are we even looking? Food tolerance issues always existed too, they just went undiagnosed before.
It is a different situation. My taste in men has changed notably over the course of my life and has broadened a lot. Taste is shaped by a variety of cultural influences - there is not one dominant narrative, even in Western society. If our taste was all genetic like you said then weâd all have almost the exact same preference.
Name checks out.
