Why do people post on their alts?

I’m guessing you’ve never been harassed in game before.

I’ve had vulgar remarks, slurs, and death threats. Not that I care but that is probabaly the reason why people post on alts, that and humiliation.

First and foremost I will continue to say what I have said for 15 years now. The content of a post is what matters. If you need to look at the avatar on the left to process the text on the right, then you never really considered what a post had to say in the first place.

Second, and far less important, Blizzard’s stupid ‘trust system’ is character based not account based.1

Hiding from the law.

See?

  1. This alt is more permanent than my main.
  2. It pushes people to be more focused on the subject of the discussion than irrelevant details.
  3. I like the name.
  4. If my knowledge doesn’t speak for itself, then my experience can be whatever anybody wants. I don’t care.
  5. I doubt anybody would, but if someone on the forums wanted to track me down in-game, I am not at all curious what would drive them to do that.
  6. I am fine with people not taking me seriously and even though some might feel like I have something that I need to prove, I don’t.
  7. I don’t have to craft my statements with the experience of my main in mind.
  8. I can.
  9. It doesn’t really matter anyways.
  10. Because ten.

because they don’t want to be called out for being wrong

Because it’s against the ToS to post on someone else’s alt.

Historically, I have always posted on my main unless there is a discussion that pertains to one of my alts.

However, in Classic, my main is still below 20 and I’ve mostly been playing this guy. Because of that, I started posting in the Classic forums with this toon which is my first Warlock.

Maybe that means this is my main now.

I just post on whatever character that I happen to be playing at the time. Personally, I don’t think that a “main” means much anymore, or at least not like it used to.

They need love and attention, too.

Crap, what things have you been saying on here? I can post day and night stand in the middle of major hubs and get no one.

At the end of the day, as in RL, people either utterly ignore you or they follow you around for better or worse.

It’s not a Baby silly

Don’t you recognize Voldemort?

You level 20 was destroyed by the Vogon to make room for the intergalactic highway, so yes, this is your main, for now anyways, i heard they are building an onramp.

So I take it you are not doing so well then.

I only post on an alt if it makes contextual sense, for example, posting on my dwarven rogue in a Dwarf Pride thread. Otherwise I couldn’t care less what others think about my main, nor do I give a D about “trust levels”.

This is my main. My 60 is my alt. I don’t waste time posting on alts.

Or some pink haired little gnome!

I always post on my main. The only exception would be if I was going to talk about something really personal that would affect someone else. I would never be in a guild that restricted forum posting (that is seriously treating guildies like employees, gross). I recently got memed on reddit and very recognized for it from one of my comments. That’s fine. I posted on my main in Vanilla and beyond that and will continue to do so.
