Why do people dislike the Horde?

As many have pointed out, it’s less to do with the Horde and more so to do with the writing, and Blizzards complete and total reliance on them as a plot device. BfA, as an expansion has wasted several interesting plot devices that could easily have stood on their own rather than adding in a pointless faction war.

Azerite, Kul’Tiras, Zandalar, the Naga and the Old Gods all could have existed without the Alliance and Horde hashing it out, again because… faction pride?

But nope, we need the Horde to find itself (again). We’re going to pointlessly divide the player base between Red and Blue (because their whole idea behind this expac was “Faction Pride” remember) and then, oh and THEN we’re going to split the player base further because the Horde is going to need to choose if they stand with Sylvanas based on the fact that she’s the Warchief, or Saurfang because… something something Honor.

And that’s what it really is. Aside from Legion, we have dutifully followed the Horde around since Cata watching them find themselves over, and over and over and over. It’s a one trick pony.

The Horde exists to antagonize the Alliance and needlessly drive the plot when it doesn’t need to. We could have had every other part of BfA and no faction war, and it would have just been better.

For me, the Horde is boring and overused. Legion was actually refreshing because, aside from Stormheim, they were left behind and forgotten, which shouldn’t have been the reaction.

I would appreciate if you didn’t condescend to me. My opinion on the fact remains unchanged, I’ve done research of my own and thus have formulated my own opinions. All in all this post was to see if the hate I found was widespread or not, clearly it’s not and i was curious as i personally feel its unjustified. EDIT: I am also aware that a lot of the Horde’s transgressions are on larger scales than many things the Alliance has done but that doesn’t justify Alliance actions, I think all those things are bad clearly. The Horde just has an extensive history of being messed with so i don’t believe its justified to call them all evil when its often people manipulating them or controlling them in one way or another.

You can only use the “manipulated card” once before it just becomes a joke.

I mean if the Horde keep hearing voices in their head telling them to kill everyone one, all the more reason to lock them up.

Well lets be fair it’s not a “manipulated card” its repetitive writing. Truth be told the way that the Horde is written is contrary to previously established things. I do have my biases against the Horde specifically since i started as a hardcore Gilnean but especially with a lot of things that went on in Legion it really struck me that I PERSONALLY prefer the Horde and Alliance not at each others throats. I realise thats been a thing for a while and some people enjoy that and truth be told I expect it will stay like that but I’m attempting to say that im trying to look at the Horde less as the faction but more so the people in the faction. Not about the leadership or any of that nonsense, all in all the Alliance and Horde RACES have very fundamental differences but I just cant agree with that being a reason to hate the Horde’s people. Some deserve the hate but thats with everything no matter the faction. Some of the people suck but not all I don’t believe.

I think the more they fleshed out orcs, the more I actually started to hate them, from a lore standpoint of course.

Warmongering brutes who’s sense of honor is might makes right. What confused me is why the alliance gets criticism for interned the remains of the bloodthirsty genocidal orcs, I mean what we’re they supposed to do with an army of aliens that wiped out half the human nations?

I may disagree with a few of these opinions but inherently I won’t say theyre just wrong. My opinion on the subject is as it is, some people agree which is nice, some don’t which is fair. Thank you all for sharing your opinions on this.

Nothing wrong with the Horde its just the creative heads behind it that ride it around town like a cheap pony.

Anything and everything that makes up the Horde nowadays is just a rotting carcass we just haven’t heard back from the geniuses upstairs whether or not the patient is dead and gutted or going to have a sudden relapse when the next Warchief decides to roll around.

It becomes even more confusing when you realize that the humans who interned the orcs are the current day forsaken.

This whole thread is depressing. I hope Blizzard has a good plan here. I can’t imagine a scenario where the Horde comes out of BfA feeling good to play. Even if Thrall, Saurfang, and Baine succeed in the end…what will they gain? An entire faction of people that went along with Teldrassil? With Brennadem? There is no winning for the Horde here.

And how many loyal members of the Horde will Baine, Thrall, Saurfang, and presumably Lorthemar have murdered in cold blood to get their way? All because they didn’t even try to have a sit-down with Sylvanas?

I hate this story so, so much.

and the undead that attacked Silvermoon with Arthas. (they had no control about it though)

One thing to agree on is that Blizzard wrote themselves into a bit of a corner with BfA

I love the Horde narrative. I don’t like what they’ve done to the Horde.

I dislike how much they’ve twisted up the narratives of the factions that make up the Horde, too.
