Why do people defend pathfinder?

What games? The only other MMOs I know of that offer flight are Aion, in which case it has a timer before you have to land and recharge, and FFXIV which only has it in certain zones as of a few expansions ago.

Is that the frame of reference for WoWs…like 95% world coverage of unmitigated flight given certain achievements are met that a huge portion of the player base is going to unlock anyway as world content is the bread and butter of the game?

I don’t see how being expected to do certain things before flying from A to B and never interacting with the world again is a problem.

Not to come off as rude, but every argument I see for immediate flight is whining. There are a bunch of things that people cite as reasons but they all tend to boil down to “I just want to get through it as quick as possible.”

It’s also nonsensical for devs to put all of this work into the open world only for players to want to blow past everything by the 3rd week of an expansion.

Why is flying such a necessity? I’d really like to hear in your own words why it is so essential as a game feature. Please avoid “Because we used to get it right away.” What are your personal reasons for wanting flight asap?

FF14
Revelation Online
GW2

To name a few.

It’s necessary for me. Maybe not for you.

Please identify one single WoW feature as popular as player flight. I’ll wait.

FF14 I mentioned, flight is limited.

Revelation online is a F2P China MMO that I have never even heard of. Had to google it. Comparing a F2P NetEase MMO to Wow is almost silly.

No opinion on GW2. I didn’t even know it was still going.

I literally asked you for your personal opinion on WHY it is so important and you totally dodged the opportunity. That kind of bolsters my statement of “You just want it because you want it.”

I’ll ask again, IN YOUR OWN WORDS what about flight makes the game so much more fun, other than making it possible to complete all WQ content in 10 minutes? People who are pro-pathfinder list tons of reasons as to why they like the game more without flight, so please specifically tell me why you like it more with flight. I very much want to understand your personal perspective on it.

If you are asking me to compare how many people use flying mounts to like, how many people raid or pvp…that is absolutely ridiculous. Flight is a convenience feature, not a game type.

It’s nonsensical to blame players for “blowing through” vacuous content in a short time. I was never able to “blow through” any of the truly good past expansions (TBC, Wrath, Cata (many hated it I didn’t) and MoP). It usually took me a couple of months to level to max. There was lots of real estate, lots and lots of content and none except heroics and raids was time-gated.

I was very occupied in all the expansions doing stuff I love to do and NOT doing anything I didn’t want to do.

Content since WoD has been redundant, carbon copied; copouts (reskins instead of completely new races; mission tables (aka timers) instead of real content, etc.)

If players “blow through” the nothing there is to do then what is nonsensical is that the devs keep churning out this thin gruel so meanly that they now have to put the entire game on rails and time gate every single activity.

This does not excuse holding the game’s single most popular feature for ransom until players have exhausted every pixel on the map.

Tedium is no substitute for fun or content.

Your lack of knowledge has no effect on the fact that these games offer flight without much fuss about it.

If I felt it necessary to explain myself to you, I would have done so already. I like what I like and I don’t like what I don’t like. It’s frankly none of your business why I may feel either way.

Oh and those are MY OWN WORDS.

Actually, what I asked was this:

Name one other WoW feature as popular as player flight.

This is not a hard question.

They should just do it like FF does. Unlock each zone for flying based on doing the story of each zone. And the covenant you are aligned with is the zone you have early access to flight with as just an example.

The difference between you and I is apparently, when I don’t know something, I read up on it before I continue to talk.

Of the 3 games you mentioned, one has flight limited to a few zones, one is a cheap, poorly designed China MMO that gets churned out by the dozens every year, and Guild Wars is not an unrestricted flight system like WoW, the mounts have a flight meter that depletes as you go and only lasts for a couple of minutes, tops before you are forced to land and let it recharge.

So who is lacking knowledge here? You apparently googled “MMOs with flight” and provided it as evidence, when one of those games is absolute trash and the other two have very restrictive flight systems in place.

WoW is the only one that offers true, unrestricted flight and hundreds of mounts to choose from. GW2 has two of them. A Griffon and a Dragon, which function differently and don’t allow you to just soar the skies indefinitely.

You still haven’t provided a reason as to why flight is so important, so I suspect that you are just mad because Blizzard “took away” your flying and then slapped an achievement on it. If that is the case, just say so. I will have more respect for an honest answer.

Hereby concluding that you just want it because you want it. For the record, if you are willing to give your opinion but not explain why you have that opinion, nobody is going to take your argument seriously. Including me, bye.

I play all three games and can fly in each and all of them. Your opinion of games you haven’t even tried is completely irrelevant.

And, since World of Pathfinder is now a cheaply designed, time-gated online casino D3-WoW hybrid, your criticism of these games is laughable.

I don’t care whether you like my opinion or don’t. And I’m very sure you don’t speak for anyone but yourself.

And judging from the fact that my posts on the subject usually get upvotes, I would say your conjecture that “nobody is going to take” my "argument (not really an argument, just my opinion) “seriously” is misplaced.

Oh and:

Name one other WoW feature as popular as player flight.

Still waiting…

Sounds like you have much more fun on those then, I’ll take your gold when you quit.

Also if you played all three, you would already know that their flight systems don’t hold half a candle to WoWs. I figured that out by reading up on the game mechanics for 15 minutes. GW2 is full of invisible walls with flight timers and a whopping 2 flying mounts in the game…sounds like lots of fun. I also found a nice article from the GW2 forums stating that permaflight would not be coming, apparently with devs citing WoW directly as an example.

Do you like the sound of your own rhetoric or what? You want me to go count how many alchemists there are and get back to you?

Also what is your character name for Revelation Online? I am downloading it now so we can play together.

Thanks, but feel free to make your own friends in game, if you like it. You can glide straightaway and fly at 29. They even give you wings.

I never publish personal 411 including account or character names in other games. If you would like to exchange this information privately, we’ll have to figure out a way.

It’s a good story, beautiful artwork and fun classes. And of course, you can fly.

“It SaVeS mE gOlD”

I didn’t say I quit. I don’t play retail much except on my BG twinks. I am having much more fun in Classic, ironically, despite the fact that you can’t fly in it. Flight you know was the most requested feature during Vanilla… but

Classic is 100x the game retail is.

Demonstrably false.

A blatant lie please explain.

Spite or ego. They are either still mad at the playerbase for not allowing them to take flying away or they like no flying and don’t care a bit about the majority of players who like flying.

Boredom? Beats trying to complete pathfinder.

You see more of the world when flying and can interact with it as much as you want when flying.
