Why do people celebrate removing abilities, and making the game easier?

It strains their mobile game abilities.

In AV if you loot some npcs you may get a broken I win button. What if someone repaired it and pushed it.

Congrats you won WoW. With just one button. See how simple that was.

Oh came across this:

This guy already lied about killing Mythic bosses in a different thread and wouldn’t own up to it.

I’m pretty sure they regularly posts threads about the game being too easy every week or so.

Yeah that was their previous drivel.

Mentioned mythic was easy because they’d done diurna on farm in S4 as DPS with no responsibilities with a group that out geared the fight by 15 ilvls.

Provided no proof ofc.

But combo points/resource management is just one dial in the tool kit when it comes to balancing things and allowing for skill expression. They can add challenge in multiple ways and I guess combo points for healers and tanks didn’t work.

There’s still huge amounts of time and effort put into Min maxing everything. A lot of it is just done in the background or mathed out by theory crafters.

The actual combat loop isn’t the sole source of difficulty/skill expression. It’s a lot of muscle memory, practice and all the hidden work (builds, simulations, strategies, addon and ui set up). Another major part is team skill and coordination. You can’t get very far if the other 19 players are struggling.

I’m unsure what their maintenance costs are, but WoW pulls in 100 million a month on subscriptions alone right now.

7+ million subscribers, $13-15 a month. That’s ~100 million a month and that’s not counting cosmetics and services bought from the store, merchandise, or even the revenue from sales of the game. I’m sure that WoW brings in a lot more than just 100 million a year in revenue.

Hate having 50 abilities on my bar with some of them doing pretty much the same thing. One thing I really like about Guild Wars 2 is that you don’t get overwhelmed with abilities.

because i despise needing to reach across my keyboard to press all 500 class abilities and needing to make macro’s.

i prefer smaller rotations.

You can accurately source this number?

Somewhat, it is still a bit of a guestimate, but there was that presentation several months ago where Blizzard showed a graph of subscriber count trends. Now they didn’t put numbers on the graph, we do have data from the earlier expansions.

A lot of people compiled the data that we do know, lined that up with the graphs from the recent stuff, and then used that calculate current subscription numbers based on that. While it’s not exact, there was a decent amount of data that went into those calculations.

You may have seen the information on it already, but here’s a thing on icy veins if you have. World of Warcraft’s Subscriber Numbers and Trends From 2016 to 2024 Revealed - News - Icy Veins (icy-veins.com)

I’m getting lazier, Its hard to hold a phone and eat a 7 layer burrito and play WoW at same time.

Is this just bellular’s clickbait crap? That stuff got debunked the same day it was published.

Why did this get flagged lol. I genuinely hope this gets restored.

I personally wouldn’t mind the game being dumbed down more because Im tired of having to wade through hundreds of people to find players competent enough to do what I want to do in the game. And oftentimes it’s not even a competency issue. Usually it’s a preparedness issue. And it’s not entirely their fault. The amount of time it takes for a truly good healer to get weakauras setup for each dungeon to track important debuffs like bleeds, roots, and other niche uses of abilities like bop/freedom/tiger’s lust is astounding. No other game on earth requires this much from players.

Even if you discount those estimates, we had hard data on WoD subscriber counts because there were official data points. So there is a way to get a reasonable estimate for subscriptions at the start of Legion even though no official numbers were released.

If you look at the official graph that Blizzard used in their presentation, the number of subscriptions in Dragonflight for in 2024 is significantly higher than the subscription counts at the start of Legion.

Partway through WoD, WoW had 5.5 million subscribers, that was the last official data point. Even if you want to continue the downward trend and take off another massive chunk of subscriptions and say it started with 4 million subscriptions during the Legion ramp, the graph would still have Dragonflight at 6 million or so.

The hard data ends before the chart begins. The chart begins with Legion; the last numbers were from WoD.

I am not disputing Blizzard’s trendline chart. Merely the clickbait garbage that bellular tacked onto it and so many people have bought hook line and sinker.

Which included China.

There is no China now.

There was no China when Bellular made his video.

For him to postulate 7 million subs - when there is no China - using data from back in the day when there was China - is laughable.

That people defend his crap is just astonishing to me.

I play pretty much exclusively healers these days, and don’t run anything beyond just DBM – and I muted all the sound warnings. Only thing I use weakauras for is putting a fancy graphic on my screen when something procs, just in case I don’t notice it. So, for my hpal, that’s things like Power of the Silver Hand, Veneration, etc.

Game doesn’t “require” any of that, people are just lazy and used to being spoon fed by all their addons.

It should be a more significant one.

I’d rather hit my spammable one more time than another button with a 3s cd that does the same amount of damage, just to get rid of that second button.

I don’t know, but it was blinking hilarious.
