Why do people care about flying?

And I feel I must disagree with you. What possible logic is there for announcing something that they know will be met with almost universal rage? There was no “convincing” involved - there was the news, there was outrage. And if they wanted to introduce Pathfinder from the beginning, all they had to do was announce it.

Fact is, they put a lot of items in WoD that you could not reach on the ground without learning the tricks of climbing trees and jumping up levels to get the treasures. They knew very well that as soon as they introduced flight, all there clever efforts at putting in those little puzzle games would be wasted. They even had similar early attempts at these on Timeless Isle, where flight was permanently banned. So you had to figure out ways of getting around without flight (like catching that damned Albatross). I think they fell in love with the concept of putting in puzzles and jumping requirements and other strange little games that players would need to use to get to things they wanted. They even introduced a legendary item (the Cloak) that enabled you to whooosh over the gap and into the Ordos fight area, and you couldn’t enter without it. And when some clever ducks figured a way around that by flying in high and dropping down to just outside the wall, they hotfixed that.

Flight would have made all those little challenge ideas go away.

So when they had to change their mind and dump all those clever tricksy game ideas, they hit on Pathfinder and to me it was like “Fine. Great, you lousy dookas - want flight, then grind for it until your buttocks are numb.”

It always felt like a punishment to me, and since they figured they can’t deny flight to us again, they are following the same pattern.

Because not flying for “reasons” is stupid.
Just let me do my WQ on my Zandalari troll while flying already…

This is a stupid question to ask. God forbid the world is filled with something that might present even the slightest inconvenience.

All I want is for ground mounts to stay a meaningful gameplay choice that has its own benefits, other than just ‘fOr MuH iMmErSiOn’

When flying is added to the game there will be zero sensible reason to use a ground mount.

Sure, I could still use my ground mount, but why would I? I could also level up a toon with no armor and a gray weapon and do the iron man challenge if I wanted to just keep making the game even harder than I had to.

Flying is bad for this game.

This argument never gets any less disingenuous.

I’ve sunk maybe a couple of hours into the game a week. I’ll emphasize a week, not daily and I already have the requirements for pathfinding.

People really need to stop acting like this grind is so tedious when it’s only requirements are the things you would’ve achieved while playing the game anyway. in WoD, Legion, and the prereqs that you can unlock for BfA, I ended up getting them without even thinking about it. Moreover, if I didn’t get the achievement notification, I probably would’ve forgotten about it entirely.

Pro’s to flying:

  1. Economy settles a bit lower for mats that heavily benefit from flying.
  2. Faster to get around
  3. Could even aid in gaining Azerite (possible soft nerf to all content).
  4. Get around to dungeons quicker (I hate running to WcM)
  5. Exploration without getting stuck, blocked, or glitched.
  6. Horde can actually get back to their portal room without running for 10 minutes or taking a 3 minute flight path while their 100 hearthstones are on CD.

Cons to flying:

  1. There’s not really anything flying benefits aside from economy, and pace
  2. No potential soft nerf to content
  3. WPvP is lively.
  4. Makes it harder to make gold from a gatherer standpoint.
  5. WQ respawn rates probably wouldn’t be changed, so enjoy barely missing a mob and waiting 3-4 minutes.

… huh? Where did emotion come into play in any of my ideas? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

How is saying “this used to exist once and could be expanded upon” in any way, shape or form irrational or nonsensical?

Do you even know what you’re quoting?

I’m seriously starting to question some people’s ability to read and comprehend.

Do you know what “disingenous” means? I assume so, since you are basically saying I’m lying. Or at the very least, misleading. And I’m pleased for you that you did it “without even thinking about it”. Good for you, thinking can be hard.

Frankly, Scarlet, I don’t give a damn if you got it half an hour before breakfast one day. What I don’t get, what I really don’t understand, is why people like you support it. Did you feel that the method in MoP was horrible? So back then we, what, got to cap, did a relatively short questline with the Serpent mount faction, and paid for a license. If that were the case in BfA, we’d have had flight a month or more ago. And would that have been so terrible?

Just how much of a grind, how many Pathfinder parts and jumping-through-hoops will it take before you throw up your hands and say enough?

Not that I agree with the dude you’re quoting for the most part, but I think the problem with Pathfinder isn’t that we have to work for stuff, it’s the arbitrary, “Hey, you got Pathfinder, but you still can’t fly because…reasons.” I’d prefer Pathfinder over the MoP system if we got flying as soon as we got the achievement because of getting flying on alts too.

But seriously, I got Pathfinder back on /August 31st/. What exactly had I not seen in the game by that point, let alone nearly five months later? I’m seriously pissed, because this is looking like we’re going to be waiting for months longer than we did in WoD, and the wait even in Legion was unacceptably long.

Well, I agree, I wouldn’t want to do away with account wide flight. But perhaps a choice would have been good - a minimal achievement and being able to buy a license for one character, or do Pathfinder for them all.

And thought I get your point, there actually IS content we haven’t seen yet. Isn’t there a new extra area of some sort coming out with 8.2?

The only answer I can give is that flying makes the game easier, path of least resistance and all that.

Also, it probably gives Blizzard an excuse to not have to make giant zones anymore since nobody can fly at the start for almost a year.

But I’ve seen the content that’s in the game. I should have flying for this part of the game. Assuming flying is even a thing in the 8.2 zone, there should then be a Pathfinder for that section. However, as it’s naga/Azshara/water related stuff and they’ve said they don’t want to repeat the Vashj’ir experience, I’m going to be there won’t even be flying there. It’s going to be a static, 2D on the ocean floor type of deal probably.

At any rate, what I’m getting at is they’ve said stuff about how they want us to ‘experience the content.’ By the time I’ve gotten Pathfinder, I’ve experienced it. I don’t need to experience it for 6-10 months after to have experienced it enough. That’s even more the case in BfA, where a huge percentage, if not the majority, of wqs are just leveling quests from the area smashed into one super quest.

I pay for it? It should be included with my sub? It used to be? Lazy way of increasing play time to make shareholders happy?

It keeps me going out in world, I never finish flying in WOD or Legion and I avoid it like the plague, I still venture out in the area I can fly in to poke around, in the current stuff after I finish all the quest lines on one toon I really don;t feel much like doing it again on another, but would do some if I could make it a bit easier with flying.

Flying has never been free. The early expansions had a flight license which you paid for (and still do if you are just starting out in the game).

You unlocked it and it felt natural not forced. Like I said it is included in your sub just like Zandalari trolls were supposed to already be here.

Ion has not been held accountable by upper Blizzard leadership for sub losses but he will be. The guy cannot keep ignoring the player base or he will eventually get canned.

I have seen know it all game directors like him come and go in other games before WoW. They never last long.

Not a good idea to name Blizzard employees in comments, the forum mods don’t generally like it.

But as a note, the man you mention has actually worked on WoW since 2008. I’d say he’s lasted quite a while.

Ion is the game director and I disagree with his reasoning. You act like I am threatening the guy. The DIRECTION the game director is taking the game is angering a very large amount of the playerbase.

The reasoning for keeping broken systems does not pass even the most basic logic test.

I am just telling you what I have seen before. Guys like him end up getting canned with their philosophy of “I know better then you”.

Flying was never an issue until Blizzard made it an issue.

I keep seeing this argument being used and it has never made sense to me.

Explain to me how exactly flying makes things “easier” and we might be able to have a conversation. Last I checked, I couldn’t fly in any kind of combat.

The game literally yells at me when I try.

It’s pretty bad when I stop playing my main (Jujubiju) because I have one character that actually can get to the higher places due to double jump. Sure, my goblin has rocket jump, but that’s only usable like every 2 or 3 minutes. And the goblin gliders? Same restriction.

I have a play style, having no access to flight hinders my play style. I find being able to fly actually fun.

So tell me: exactly how does player controlled flight make the game “easy”.

Or am I just too stupid to get the argument here?

Actually, I said this first a very, very long time ago. When Bliz first made it an issue.

I said it before Demon Hunters were even a thing.

This isn’t my only character. Been arguing this subject since day 1 on Jujubiju on the old forums.

We all know this (unless you weren’t around back then).
