why do demon hunters have to turn away from blind mechanics, if demon hunters are blind already? i think this should be fixed!

Because designing encounters is easier when mechanics affect all the classes, rather than X number of classes.

Lore perspective…demon hunters can -still- “see.”

Exchange for gouging out their eyes is preternaturally enhanced vision all around as well as having a 360* range of sight.

So, technically, a DH -would- be blinded even if they turned away.

Considering Demon Hunters see the world as the energy of it’s composition, a blinding flash of light, which is a form of energy, would be as blinding.

Sand to the eyes, probably less so, especially considering blindfolds.

Granted Demon Hunters also have options that don’t include blindfolds so… yeah. They’d be as susceptible as anyone.

Because we want to feel included despite our disability. Thankfully bosses always give some kind of audio indication when they are about to do these abilities. So we just fake being blinded if we forget to turn.

This makes us feel like we don’t have a disability and are just like you. And that’s important!

Demon hunters have to turn away for blind mechanics

The training begins with the person slaying a demon, eating its heart, and drinking its blood. The spirit of the ingested demon bonds with them and from this bond the demon hunter receives visions of the Burning Legion destroying countless worlds across the universe. In horror at the sight, they tear their own eyes out, and usually puts them into a coma. The fel power infusing their bodies after ingesting the demon’s heart and blood causes the demon hunter to mutate, gaining demonic features such as scales, horns, or claws. As with all chaos-touched creatures, the forms that these traits will take can be quite unpredictable.

After the demon hunter awakens and their spectral sight begins to take effect, they are given tattoos which keep their inner demon from overwhelming them, but it is still always there, talking to them and trying to get them to turn to the Legion.

Spectral sight is a demonic, magical view of the world. Demon hunters, disciples of Illidan Stormrage, ritually blind themselves in exchange for spectral sight that enables them to better sense their prey.

We’re absolutely physically blind. Spectral sight shows us the energies surrounding and emitted by all things, not the things themselves. Gaze attacks and other things that relying on us looking at them shouldn’t work on us, or wouldn’t if this were an actual RPG rather than an MMO.
