Our Doctors are government employees who make set salaries depending on their specialties and the number of patients they see. The hospitals are government run institutions, there is no middle man like an insurance company and the hospital doesn’t exist to make a profit. It doesn’t cost $5-10,000 to say take out an appendix because there isn’t anyone out to get rich from doing it.
Cut the military budget. We don’t need to spend trillions a year on imaginary wars. And then, get this, we’d also help paying for it… through taxes. Which is what taxes are supposed to be used for. Us.

I’m Canadian and I think Americans are perfectly fine people. A little odd, but pretty damn good people as a whole.
Then again, I don’t understand. I wrote my post with the understanding that hospitals were gov run. That’s why I said:
So the gov does have control of your health because they control the doctors and hospitals. They are footing the bill for your treatment. I refuse to believe that they would let get the most expensive treatment when there are cheaper avenues available.
My question is this: We get 5 minutes with the doc right away at the cost of thousands.
In Canada do you wait your turn and still get 5 minutes? It’s as if I don’t exist and they are talking into dictation.

I agree with this. I think we should shut down every military base over seas and let all those countries that hate us deal with their own problems.

And that was my point, the more expensive treatment isn’t as expensive as it is in the US. The only cost for chemo here is the cost of the drug, the doctor/nurse’s salary etc. There is no health care institution jacking up the cost so the more expensive treatment isn’t as big of a deal. You get what you need, not what is cheaper just because it may be slightly cheaper. The greed component isn’t there. Even the government here, though they have many faults aren’t as bad as that because they aren’t profit driven like an insurance company is.
The insurance company wants the cheaper option because they make more money and their stocks are worth more. The government isn’t making money from this, they aren’t as financially motivated. They will stilt you in other ways, but the basic treatment isn’t generally one of those ways.

That’s not how defense spending works. And, again, to what level do you propose we cut defense spending, and how do you propose we then address expansionist competitors/enemies?

You act like the profit just goes into someone’s pocket and yes some does. But like I said before, there are people to pay, equipment to buy, utility bills that need taken care of. And that’s just a simplistic breakdown of cost.
I don’t think it works as simply as you think it does. Even taking out the human factor, health technology is expensive. One of my treatments required putting radioactive material inside my body. Uranium, Plutonium I don’t remember. I was out of it. I didn’t have two medical doctors doing that… it was two physicist and a robot.
Anyways, I’m not going to argue anymore about it. All I have is my opinion.
At this point I’m pretty sure the only country in the world that doesn’t hate us is Russia. And they just think we’re gullible morons. Well… everyone else probably does too.
