High Elves were originally part of the Alliance in Warcraft 2, and Warcraft 3. Many players who love the Alliance are also fans of established Fantasy genre tropes which usually have the Humans and Elves allied together against the big bad.
Beyond this, within World of Warcraft specifically, there are groups of High Elves that remain in the Alliance and strong allies of Humans and Dwarves.
The Rangers that Alleria took with her to Outland, and the Silver Covenant lead by Varessa Windrunner.
For over a decade, the primary reason we have been told that the High Elves we see operating Alliance Mage portals, fighting side by side with us against the Lich King, and working with us in Dalaran are not a playable race is that they do not have a sufficient population to support being a playable race.
This reason, in combination with the “but you’ll confuse them for Blood Elves” was thrown out the window, onto the train tracks, run over, scooped-up, cremated, and baked into concrete shoes for use with drowning Lore consistency with the introduction of Void Elves.
The sane and reasonable Alliance Players who want High Elves want to be able to play as the people who have been fighting alongside the Alliance since Warcraft 2 and who are still fighting alongside the Alliance.
It began as orcs and humans, with elves on the human side. When horde received the most popular elf that was originally closer to alliance, some felt cheated and it has not ended.
This is World of Warcraft, not the Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun, or Greyhawk. We do things differently here on Azeroth, and the sooner you accept that about this particular IP, the happier off you’ll be.
I’m hardcore Horde for life, and I joke about Alliance getting all the horses all the time, but quite honestly if I wasn’t already Horde I’d have jumped Jaina’s ship many moons ago.
It’s not whining, it’s people loving the game and wanting cool stuff, nobody is a bad person for wanting cool stuff.
So, I’m definitely an Alliance player. As far as I’m concerned, Horde can keep vulpera and Nightborne and all the other races they got. I’m perfectly happy with the races the Alliance got.
And mechagnomes? Mechagnomes are rad. Dark iron and mechagnomes are my two favorite races across the board, and we’ve got them on the Alliance. And I don’t have to run around with furry rat-fox-things in my cities.
Lemme tell you that if Blizz let Alliance have red Orcs you blue wearing, posh talkin, horse riding folks would be clambering over each other to roll one.
Haha! I side with you on all points here. Just saying
Alliance, doesn’t want horde races. All they need is blood elf.
If you feel that alliance wants horde then feel free to request or demand blizzard’s loving faction to transfer blood elfs to alliance and gnomes or diaper gnomes to horde.
