It reduces e-waste (plastic-encased electronics with a singular purpose are bad for the environment) and smartphones are dirt cheap now… you can get a cheap android tracfone for like $25 or something now. A cheap used 3-generations-old iPod touch or iPad or $50 Amazon Fire tablet would also work equally well if cell connections are undesirable.
