In the revamped Ghostlands zone in Midnight, it looks like the elves got rid of a lot of the Troll settlements around the area, but left Zul’Aman? Aren’t most of the Troll factions like the Gurubashi and Drakkari essentially dead? Wouldn’t this apply to the Amani? Why wouldn’t they want to clear out whoever remained in the city
Genocide is bad.
Colonialism is bad.
Troll unity is cool.
That would make for a bad and boring story.
Be more creative.
Stay blessed.
It would make a better story and fit with the historical way elves view other races than “be da good guys”. Also, if they had no problem clearing out nearby settlements, why stop at the city?
Morally gray characters are much better story-wise
Morally Grey = “wiping out all the Amani”
Girl what lmao loud and wrong
The answer is simple: The Blood Elves don’t have enough manpower and the Horde has better things to do.
Yeah, let’s fight a total war of genocide against a people with deep ties to their land (including literal druidic powers over it), the favor of local deities, an unknown amount of forest infrastructure and organizing capability and the ability to regenerate from their wounds, who, mind you, would have absolutely zero reason to retreat or surrender in this instance because our stated objective in this military conflict is to kill their families and end their culture
that sounds both highly moral and like a good use of everyone’s time and lives
Realistically I’m sure the elves would do it if they had the chance but they don’t have enough manpower to do so. Plus the Zandalari probably talked to the elves on the trolls behalf
They did committed a genocide several actually. Look at the size of BC Quel’thelas and compare it to Midnight and how many trolls are gone? They racially cleansed the settlements and razed their villages of the Amani and killed Zul’jin as well as purged thousands and his the same to his successor. Can you imagine that Zul of the Zandalari dare to promise them unity and a new Troll Empire? How many Amani must be put to the sword? Killing and displacing hundreds maybe even thousands already… Compared to the Troll Wars? Genocide seems to be the answer that elves have used throughout their long history to those native indigenous trolls. Remember the only good troll is a dead troll. Ask the Trollbanes of the Arathi.
Like the real world examples of the Trail of Tears and the settlement of the West. Elven values and supremacy must be maintained. Those foul terroristic trolls
who dare exist on Azeroth and dare call themselves, “Freedom fighters!” They should remember this is Warcraft not Peacecraft. /s
Pesky creatures! Always so devoted to their loa. The land they dare defile with their presence was divinely ordained by the Thalassian founders. The fact that they refuse to accept their place and that their suicidal attempts to take back their lands. Kidnapping innocent elves demanding that elves barter for their lives!? We must separate ourselves from the trolls and wherever they dwell be burnt and cleansed by elvish might! The world cannot allow the barbarism of the Eastern Trolls of beautiful Quel’thelas ever find refuge in Elf lands. /s
This is how elves feel about trolls. Disdain doesn’t begin to describe their ideology and we can see the subtle message of Midnight. The very Amani are now willing to accept and work with the elves and accept their supremacy over what once was troll lands.
Bro what are you on?
A lack of manpower and much of their people being seemingly being content with sitting inside the WC3 barriers until the Scourge took those out.
Because the Thalassians have never been as genocidal as some people like to paint them.
Read the lore on what happened to the trolls. This is literally the thinking of the average elf and most humans. Killing trolls. Stealing their lands. Purging them by the thousands. You do know the history of the Troll Wars? In lore, they kind of glaze over what the humans and elves did as well as mitigate their responsibility by saying, “They deserved it.” It’s the same colonialist mindset we see in the real world.
The question is who’s worse in WoW? The orcs? The humans? The elves? The trolls? Literally nearly every race save maybe gnomes and Tauren are benign. Everyone else?
Genociding the people you colonized is not morally gray, that’s indefensibly evil. The Sin’dorei, for all their past (and present given some quests in Midnight) misdeeds, don’t actually want to wipe out the Amani to the man. They actually do desire coexistence.
Ehh they wiped out a few villages these past few years since BC ERA. Kind of suspicious for them now to say we’ve stolen most of your land and genocided you all repeatedly and now after taking most of your land and ethnically cleansing you to a population number roughly equal to our own. Now we want to negotiate and coexist. That’s actually worse because the survivors are in no position to negotiate without getting justice, but I suppose, they must trust in the mercy of the elves to insure they don’t lose even more people.
I am aware, as there has been a issue outside of the Amani tribe Looks at Zul’Farrak
Think I misread it in a self-inserting kind of way, so that was my bad
This has been the main thing about the Thalassians that some people have never grasped. They never made attempts at destroying/conquering/so on Zul’Aman and the rest of the Amani’s holdings during the reign of Anasterian, because they’re just not a genocidal people.
Even during the Sin’dorei they had more major things to look after (fighting Dar’khan, rebuilding their society, etc.) They killed the Amani’s present warlords and just dipped after. The Amani are looking like Zul’jin’s repeated desire to genocide every elf and human on the planet isn’t inherent to the tribe either, even if they were morally justified in their dislike and hatred of the two races.
It’s all good. I don’t know if I like the idea of the Amani just forgiving and moving past all the stuff that’s been done to them. That said. I don’t think any character in wow is a not morally grey save maybe the pandaren, gnomes and Tauren. I don’t know how Midnight is going to play out, but I don’t want to see us mindlessly killing trolls without being reminded these people are people and our sons, daughters and parents. We’re not good people just because we stop Amani incursions or save the elves.
If I was Xal. I would use the lore and histories as a reference to point the mirror back at everyone and say, “I’m the villain? You all have committed atrocities and nobody on this world or any other is benevolent not the Light users or anyone!”
They are essentially dead and most moved to the Zandalar capital. The Trolls also attacked the elves multiple times themselves. No one is innocent here. but maybe they are in such a weakened state the elves see no point to do anything else
As mentioned they probably didn’t have the mainpower to do it on their own and the Zandalari probably is being a voice between the 2. or maybe they are in such a weakened state the elves see no point to do anything else
I…uhh…may have screamed out loud when I read the OP. Media literacy truly is dead and it makes me cry as someone who loves to read
Deal with looming existential threat of the week
Rebuild our homeland
Brutallize the troll neighbors who are on their last leg
Boy that’s a tough one.
