Why did you break unit frames too?

It is a lot of fun! I’ve probably spent 100’s of hours maybe more over the last 14 years just tweaking and customizing my UI. I would really hate to lose that.

100% agree. I use Vuhdo for this myself. I do not use any of the advanced functionality like AOE suggestions, and I don’t care about things like incoming heal tracking. I just want to be able to skin my unit frames to look how I want.

I personally unsubbed to make a stand on this, since I know Blizzard tends to ignore feedback unless it’s accompanied by sub losses. I still have a few months of game time left, so I will be here until that runs out, unless they revert some of this over the course of the alpha.

I don’t know if this is cause for hope or not, because I can’t verify it. But someone on the Vuhdo Discord posted this, saying it was a response from the accessbility email, supposedly from Ion. Hopefully this is the case and this just has to do with alpha, and more stuff in the API will be enabled. They are getting a LOT of flak about this, so we can hope.

No more adding a personal touch to your UI!

You will conform and you’ll like it

Understatement of the year lol.

When it comes to the default unit frames and binding healing spells the way you do with Vuhdo, the amount of customization is so limited it might as well not exist.

Blizzard removed unit frames because they want us stuck with their garbage default UI, forcing us to ditch addons like ElvUI and Grid for a ‘pure’ WoW experience. It’s a stealth plot to nerf our raiding edge and make casuals think they don’t need mods—prove me wrong!

I hope you’re wrong, but right now I don’t trust Blizzard since they did exactly what they said they wouldn’t do though. See my post above though - if that email is legit there may be hope.

Okay so say they give me an extra .5 seconds to dispel something and there are healing absorbs that need to be purged by healing through a sizable shield… But then I won’t be able to have Grid programmed to show that it even exists? I just have to spam heals, possibly read chat to see who got a debuff (or try to physically find the person in my party with my eyes and see who is glowing purple, mentally take 3+ seconds to figure out if that’s the mage or warlock behind me) and hope we can ride it out? Sounds ridiculous.

This right here is where I start to scratch my chin. Like, I know they don’t want information fed to us but not being able to show debuffs etc on our bars because they want to force their bad UI on us is nuts.

What happens when the addon makers just don’t want to bother with it anymore?

OK now I want a cross over where I can get an actual Doom Guy outfit for transmog and not a peice meal set up of assorted greens.

Oh trust me, we’re speaking up. I actually recommend unsubbing for now. If you have game time you’ll still be able to play until it runs out, but we need to send a definitive message that we WILL leave if unit frame addons go away.

Yeah I worry about what they think will make it “clearer” that these things need to happen.

Are we going to have more, bigger spell effects on individual player models in order to show us “this spurting green goo is poison to dispel” or “this giant glowing egg is a heal absorb”? Because that’s a nice idea in theory, but it’s like they forget (or have never known) how much we are dealing with where it comes to visual cues in healing.

We are watching for what character model is standing in the fire (or spurting green goo, or whatever). But we are also watching mobs to see who is casting the big danger spell. And we are watching the tank to see what they are pulling. And we are watching the swirls on the floor and the other environmental AoEs. And we are watching health bars, and our own health, and our own resources, and our cooldowns, and –

And in all of that, I’m supposed to be watching harder for whatever visual effect is going to cue me for a dispel, but are they actually going to clean up and adjust the massive overwhelm of other stuff I’m trying to visually process all at once?

In a lot of high-focus jobs like airplane piloting, they have a concept about information overload and how much the human brain can meaningfully understand at once, and how once the brain reaches that threshold, it simply stops accepting all additional information. They reduce as much unnecessary noise as possible so that the brain can compute what is actually important.

WoW is terrible at this philosophy lol. And all the UI addons etc really make it possible for healers especially to reduce the amount of information coming in so that we are getting what is most important to us and allow us to blank out the other stuff. I don’t trust that anyone on the design team actually understands this, or what we’re trying to blot out, or what we’re wanting to have highlighted for us. And why should they? That should be something we can all customize to our own individual needs.

We are 100% on the same page. Let’s pray they figure out how to make their raid frames decent or we’re absolutely screwed (or our friends are… hehe).

Nah, the ones who will be screwed if unit frame addons go away will be the people playing Midnight and seeing healer queues at 6-8 hours. If this goes through the way it currently is on alpha then I’m just not resubbing. I am already unsubbed (3 months of game time remain), and I have not preorderd Midnight. The ball is in their court whether I do either.

Port to console.

combat related fixes are needed, but its also an excuse to remove things that won’t translate to console, like display or chat/log reading addons.

I actually really like the default unit frames. I’ve had the Elvui unit frame override disabled since DF.

What kind of customization do you look for in unit frames?

The level of customization you currently get with addons like Vuhdo, Healbot, Cell, Grid, etc. Anything less is unacceptable.

I’m not accepting a massive UI downgrade in a 20 year old game I pay for. I’ll just quit and play something else.

Those are party frames, not unit frames.

The terms are basically interchangeable. That’s what we’re talking about.

Ok, well now that it’s been clarified, yeah the raid/party frames are horrible. That is one thing I’ve always needed an addon to replace. They have made them cosmetically customizable (to an extent) but they are still stuck in the stone age as far as functionality. I tried using the default on my resto druid and literally could not play the spec.
