This was discussed above but in the context of Vanilla, our characters, though allied with our given factions, were not really heroes, just adventurers with some heroic tendencies. Zul’farrak is an example of a dungeon crawl. None of the initial reasons sending us there, such as the hydra, have to do with killing the Chieftain, that only happens after our characters are nearly executed at the top of the pyramid.
At which point one assumes our party collectively went “well, guess you’ll die”.
Very few of the dungeons in Vanilla had official backing of the Alliance so much as some quests to go there given by people who happened to live in the faction in and of itself, same as the Horde.
Well yes, if I remember correctly some wanted to know more about Gahz’ridian which the trolls made out of unknown material in the shape of their loa Gahz’rilla, also the scales of said loa. And the legendary Farraki sword Sul’thraze of course!
I’d say trolls are extremely territorial and will attack anything that threatens what they perceive as their land, and will keep on to this grudge for thousands of years attempting to reclaim it.
For example, there was little fighting outside of small border skirmishes between the ancient troll empires, and Stormwind had little problems with the jungle trolls until they tried to expand into Stranglethorn vale and jungle troll lands, which after that the trolls started to send raiding parties into human lands, etc.
Well most Troll lands are owned by alliance races these days. Argent Crusade has the most of Lordaeron. Wildhammer have the Hinterlands. Dwarfs took Dun Morogh and the Scourge wiped off the Drakkari. Troll kind faces extinction. Blizzard owes them some victory after they suffered so many backtracks. Especially after Zuldazar was sacked by the alliance. If Trolls want to survive they need to rise up again and retake what is theirs by right of conquest.
Nope, if they want to survive they need to find a place in the new world that fits into the way the new world works.
The entire point of the Zandalari and mogu angle in Shadows of the Horde was driving home that these decrepit old empires don’t get to rise up and start reconquering stuff the way they used to; if they try to do it the Alliance and Horde superpowers will predictably put a temporary pause on their own disagreements to stomp all over any third parties trying to take over the world.
These old world powers trying to regain their former prominence aren’t really even in a position to do so; the Alliance and Horde just routinely beat them bloody because like Garrosh, by trying and failing to take over Azeroth they’ll still cause all sorts of unnecessary death and destruction in the process.
Lmao don’t make me laugh. The Horde is not a superpower. They can’t even repell alliance incursions in their core territory. The Trolls will have easy game with the Horde since they pretty much lost all their menpower in the fourth war.
There is no new world. Kalimdor and the EK are both their ancestral homelands. And it is currently occupied by foreign invaders who colonized it with their own races.
Doesn’t matter how inept both faction’s standing armies become to drive the narrative; any time a third party rises to challenge the Alliance and Horde hegemonies, they’ll each send their respective teams of invincible superheroes (i.e. the players) to nip it in the bud.
So…you’re calling for the destruction of the Horde then as well? 'Cuz between the Forsaken in Lordaeron and blood elves in Quel’thalas, they’re occupying ancestral troll lands as well. And really anywhere on Azeroth the orcs live would be a foreign invasion, because they’re straight-up alien invaders from another planet putting down roots on a world that was already packed full of native inhabitants before they arrived.
There are even orcs’ base at Grom’gol, which saw plenty of action butchering large numbers of jungle trolls during the most recent attempt to rejuvenate the Gurubashi. Or the goblins at Hardwrench Hideaway, who also undermined the jungle trolls. And the Darkspear at Bambala, who involved themselves in the Horde player’s anti-Gurubashi operations as well.
Like it or not, the world’s changed. Since the heyday of troll dominance, or even elf dominance, there have come to be new forces dictating the way of things, and every time one of these ancient empires tries to haul itself out of ages past and reconquer what they once had, the Alliance and Horde will keep dropping a bunch of unstoppable champions on their heads and crushing them back down. The only way for them to be relevant again on the world stage is to make nice with one or both factions. Otherwise every attempt at seizing power at the expense of the Horde or Alliance is just setting themselves up for failure over and over again.
If I had to chose my bets would always go straight for the Trolls. No matter where on Azeroth. Lordaeron belongs to them. As well as Stranglethorn, Zul Drak, Tanaris and Dun Morogh. The good fight will not be done until all foreign invaders are kicked out for good.
Has it? Last time I checked there are still Earthen in Ulduar. They Dwarfs would have it easy to be reintegrated into their society. Same for the humans. If Trolls can unite themselves with ALL of their kind then there is nothing to stop them.
Not gonna happen. They will always look for Zandalari leadership to bail them out. Rastakhan promised them glory. And if Talanji is smart she will give the remaining tribes exactly that. Trolls must rise. And show the world who are the rightful rulers of Azeroth at large.
I agree with this, although the reason why I specified “rarely ever peaceful” is the caveat that when they’re not waging territorial wars as you said, they’re bullying smaller tribes into submission. So it’s not really peaceful even among the troll tribes, who are territorial even against each other very frequently. There’s only a few notable exceptions to this, like the Shatterspear.
