Neither are Mary Sue’s. Strong characters, yes, and in Sylvanas’ case that strength has been very poorly shown, but not Mary Sue’s.
A Mary Sue is a character that instantly appears in a story, is liked by everyone, and is stronger than anyone, or knows every possible strategy to defeat her foes without significant issue or growth.
Sylvanas has always been a Ranger and an expert Archer, she was turned into a Banshee by Arthas in Warcraft 3 and her spirit is incorporeal and has the ability to possess bodies at will. I actually find it kind of interesting that she can even be killed by damaging the body considering she’s a spirit possessing her old body which she can choose to leave at will as a Banshee.
Her ability to best Bolvar in Single Combat is due to a poorly shown power up and bad story-telling, not due to any Mary Sue tendencies. Blizzard failed to show that Sylvanas was gaining borrowed power all throughout BFA, but she is not a Mary Sue.
Jaina, on the other hand, is one of the most powerful Mages on the face of Azeroth who has been engaged in active combat and in war zones for nearly 20 years from when we first see Her as a young apprentice to Archmage Antonidas of the Kirin Tor in Warcraft 3 until now. Not only has she gained a great deal of insight into staying alive on a battlefield, she also wields Antonidas’ staff after it had been infused with the stolen power of a Titan, by absorbing the essence of the Thunder King.

Well, Jaina is protecting Thrall because he’s just a basic Warrior and has been weakened. During his rescue when the player goes in to save him, Thrall re-establishes his connection to the elements and goes nuts murdering every Mawsworn in his path while also being tortured by the Jailer at the same time. There’s nothing wrong with Jaina being powerful. She has valid reason to be that powerful. Thrall was going through a change in his character that made sense.

Not even that though. It’s also a fault of the playerbase that led to their disappointment. For some reason they think that just because you’re the Lich King you’re a god. You aren’t. What made Arthas strong was Frostmourne, which Bolvar doesn’t have. Bolvar also is not undead. Another thing people forget. So he has less connection to his powers than Arthas.

For that I would have Talanji, Tyrande, Talia, Garona or Vaalera while Sylvia and Jaina, when he abuses the term Strong Character ends up with an exaggerated Marie sue, and is that he did not cross the line.
There is no better reason because Sylvia is the marie sue of WoW, examples do Hall of the Reflexion and you will see a meeting of the Lich King with the one now, and no, it is no difference between Bolvar and Arthas.

I am happy to see I am not the only one who noticed. Her artist is inferior to previous renditions of her. I wonder why they are cheapening the quality of the cut scenes so much. Not impressed at all.
