Just curious. The pvp scene is beyond dead already. People unsubbing left and right.
Two new game modes and a ton of balance changes just for PvP is abandoned now?
pvp players only complain no matter what
Because it will never be balanced and pvp failed to take off as an e-sport due to the gearing system.
No one likes being cc locked or dealing with immortal healers or tanks due to gear.
Pillar humping isn’t terribly interesting either.
Won’t save PvP.
Why would I want to even start PvP just so I can be honor farmed due to gear differences or Tanks being unfun to grind down in a fight? Or immortal healers? Especially Druid healers in pvp.
Here’s how I would fix PvP.
- Way less buttons and cc. CC last less and diminishing returns happen faster.
- Tanking and Healing specs are banned from all PvP content. Only DPS allowed.
- PvP and PvE have separate abilities.
- Faster paced.
- All self healing greatly reduced.
- Melee classes receive reduced damage the further away they are from ranged specs, so they aren’t instant nuked before getting into the fight. Requires 10-15 seconds of no attacking to regain this buff.
- Objectives matter way more, and reward more based off how long they are held. Moreso if they were taken and held. Furtherest ones from spawns reward more. Less bonuses on side that cannot hold their objectives near their spawn.
- Gear is less of a gatekeeping measure. No massive gains, make it about skill.
- For arenas, everyone has normalized gear.

PvP as is on retail isn’t fun and if you are undergeared then you get the displeasure of being honor farmed.
All I enjoy is PvP. It’s been fun so far. But CRZ and Warmode killed the best part of PvP which was the RP PvP campaigns.
All 12 pvp’ers unsubbed? When did that happen? Don’t they know Winter Veil is coming?

That would actually kill PvP; all the people who prefer to play healers would be gone and all DPS who understand that the game is only good when there are healers would also be gone

Gear already doesn’t matter because of how easy it is to get it, and participation is lower than when it did matter a lot (i.e., SL)
They should add a couple PvP servers back. I think that would help the community aspect of people a lot. This is an mmo and people want to play with a group of people they recognize on a regular basis. CRZ, sharding, layering, WARMODE all kinda take you out of that .

Healers are the bane of PvP. Tanks are neutral.
Healing in PvP is a huge time-extending buffer, making fights (and queues) way longer than they have to be.
If it was up to me, Emet’s ideas would all be implemented, with small adjustments (like just make a single all CC DR, none of this ranged penalty BS unless gap closers were severely nerfed. Pacing is fine as is etc.).
And losing should not be the gigantic waste of time it currently is for a full honor geared char. We really need some honor trade-up for conquest or simply conquest on losses, and all conquest gains should be doubled or tripled in unrated matches.
It matters. A lot. Also full gearing a single char with conquest in unrated play is a huge pain.
I can’t wait for BBlitz to be an actual Rated PvP mode.

Definitely. But they should keep Warmode as a toggle, but when in warmode, you’re tethered to your realm. None of the sharding etc. should apply.
Getting farmed with no way out sucks, as does being unable to join other servers for questing, which should be disabled in Warmode on those servers as it would be abused to phase-run out of fights.
As for the snarky responses in topic regarding PvP, the BG Blitz PvP queues are faster than dungeon queues (and it requires 2 healers for 8 spots), so, if anything, we could say there are more people doing PvP than dungeons on the finder.
I’d say at least 10% of the player base (more like 30% really) does regular PvP activities, and that’s A LOT.
Blizzard abandoned PvP after wod and turned it into a series of experiments on the playerbase to see if developers with no PvP experience could come up with new and creative ideas for making it more successful. They had fun trying, and sometimes it seems that’s why they make the decisions they do.

We got two new battle modes this expansion that are revitalizing it, though of course more tweaking and work is required.
Solo Shuffle gives Solo Rated Arena queues
Blitz gives Solo Rated BGs, in a modified game mode so aka new ways to play, and faster.
Also ilvl scaling so there’s not a huge gap in player power (having a higher ilvl and letting it carry you is not skill, no matter what the “PVPers” say) and rewards based on participation, not just winner take all.
Also also they announced a new BG at Blizzcon and admitted that PVP had been neglected and they’re hoping to fix that come TWW.
Nah it’s the other way around, most would say tanks should not be allowed in PvP and healers are good
You can get gear that is just 3 item levels below conquest gear just from doing weeklies, so it’s very easy actually
Seems weird that you’re excited for a game mode that is guaranteed to have healers in it when you could just find a rogue to queue 2s with right now. All that time spent traveling and doing objectives is really just padding; it’s basically PvE if you think about it. You could do double dps 2s and just kill the other team

In World PvP though. Not a BG experience, and it takes a few weeks worth of Trophies of Strife and Bloody Token WQs to get there. Thankfully we can get a trophies for honor now, but it still takes forever with a trophy 3500:1 exchange ratio.
3 ilvl isn’t much, really, but 13 is. Over 200k HP, more damage etc.
I like larger objectives and strategy that varies from setting up kills and pillar humping.
Also, deathmatches in WoW are that much of a “tryhard” experience, since you can’t compete with sweats who bind macros to arena frames and use a ton of addons.
And worst of all, it’s much more sensitive to higher latency.
I have always hated arena.
As it is, the random BG player still loses a gigantic amount of time, even on a win, since the conquest given is ridiculously low and honor becomes nigh useless in a single day or 2.
They completely abandoned PvP, idk what some people are saying.
It’s probably either they have something big planned probably with the soloqueue rbgs or the audience simply isn’t big enough for their metrics and they’re just letting it go.
I’de also like to add that arenas simply just aren’t fun for most people. They should have leaned into rbgs to start with. Arenas are impossible to watch, high skill floor, plagued with addons, and devolved into just CD trading.
I get that CC is also a huge part of arena but you can’t deny being hit with a 30 second CC chain just isn’t very interesting
