Why Crit/Haste for Guardian in M+

I see a lot of people running Crit/ Haste for Guardian in M+. Why crit?

i play Resto and literally the last 2 vaults have had nothing but Crit on the gear.
so i dont think they have a choice.
Crit is the LAST thing a meta-resto needs.
but hey. Blizz math > than millions of live testers?

Usually you prioritize Haste, the crit may just have appeared on gear with haste.

But after haste you go for verse for defense, and then crit. Right now vers is better for DPS, but in the past crit was better than vers for DPS/agro. Folks may have relfexively gone for crit next if they were worried about DPS/agro are are just wearing some of last seasons gear. And crit does give you more dodge.

Mastery tends to be the last option chosen.

haste to at least 20% imo. then vers > crit = mas

we’re just big meat shields. everything helps us :slight_smile:

You can safely raise your haste to 39% this season. Incarn and FR cooldowns are much faster. Plus, armor is easier to gain the cap, even without the +2 second Ironfur talent and the Ironfur armor bonus talent.
Plus, haste provides a lot of DPS even after the first cap.

It probably depends what type of content they’re doing. Prioritizing crit/haste tells me they’re strictly wanting more damage and don’t care much for survivability if they’re not dying to begin with. If they have a competent healer and they know how to play their spec well, then survivability can be toned back a bit.

One other thing to consider is some specs are getting quite bursty, so they may be getting more damage to hold threat.

you aren’t doing that on day 10 of the season. so you shoot for a solid floor to get started

not every comment is about trying to run 0.1% keys

Stack ilvl until your start getting a good mix of high hero/mythic track gear. That is probably why you’re seeing a lot of Crit gear. It’s probably coming from nightmare prey boxes.

At a minimum, I won’t stop at 20%. Haste at least 30%, this is the first cap.

i just did a quick review of the top bears. in their human forms, they are mostly in the 20-25% range. my human form is 28%. maybe I am the top bear lol.

i hate when gear gives me mastery. we get 6% haste from talents.

some might downplay vers on gear since we can talent for extra vers from our own MoTW and maybe as much as another 6% vers from talents.

FWIW: i still prefer ilvl > haste > vers > crit > mastery

as a non-raiding pug tank, I need all the survicability I can get, especially early in the season without set bonuses and I am still trying to fill out my heroic gear (running +9s right now).

Whatever gear dropped, that’s what they equip. I just wrote down what you should aim for. It’s definitely not 20%, but much more. But whatever, play as you please.

and what I wrote was what you should aim for as soon as possible to get started in a season. you are not going to get to a season cap in 10 days so there is little sense in talking about what that is when people are just getting their first week of drops and their first vault.

Anything over 30% is a waste imo. Once a stat enters diminishing returns it is almost always better to start bringing up your other stats.

There are 2 items that drop in m+ this season that share Haste and Versatility. Legs and a ring both from Kings’ Rest. Most gear from m+ this season just happens to be Crit + Haste. Crit probably works really well with the new cantrip items off the final 2 bosses in the raid too. I’d prefer Versatility in m+ but at least Crit benefits our chance to Dodge.

This is incorrect. It depends on the stat weight, if we’re talking about DPS, and on the usefulness of the stats. Bear can easily get up to 39% haste this season, if we’re talking about bis or near-bis gear.

Mastery will get your further
Increases attack power, health, and healing received

But generally while gearing, until you’re nearly full Mythic track gear: Ilvl is king

I like the idea of haste/ mastery because I think all the specs like those stats as well.

Unless you specifically farm pieces, you’ll have a pretty even spread of stats. I used Feral as my main source for gear (Crit/Mastery) and then just used that gear (dps trinkets as well) on Guardian and did just fine.

crit = dam
crit = bigger thrash shield
crit = healing from elune chosen (if u run this)
crit = Dream Guide/After the Wildfire healing etc for group
crit = dodge

i’m a big fan of getting crit/x on all my gear, with crit being the lower stat; aiming for crit/haste then for some pieces putting mastery on- this will give me a pretty balanced stat line in the end, which i think feels the best.

not a huge fan of the point per % conversion of vers esp as we move into DR range, nor do i think as a bear we need it.

This is something I didnt think about.

Crit has its uses, but it’s a hit and miss stat. Sure it comes out in the overall, but Mastery/Haste (and to a lesser extent, Vers) are all constant that come out to the same end result as Crit: increased damage, UF shields, healing
