Why can't you do public recrafting orders?

Just generally asking why this isn’t allowed? It’s a pain to have to try to track down someone who can recraft these items, especially when you are on a lower populated realm when it would be much simpler to put in the order and wait till that person checks it.

If we can’t be allowed to set public recrafting orders, please allow us to at lease set the desired rank of the item we wish to have made to regular public crafting orders.

When i search for a re-craft, it usually is for something that i have currently equipped. Leaving that item for 12 hours minimum in the listing would be sub-optimal. Very sorry for your issues with low pop realm but this wouldn’t help.

As for the rank in public orders, that is a whole other can of wiggling worms. Professions are currently requiring that you use the work order system to level your crafting profession. You find it difficult to find a crafter now? What rank would you always choose for your public listing? It would be r5 most likely. A rank that is usually obtained by being maxxed in a profession. Your pool of available crafters would have no chance to increase with such an option.

I’m sure it’s this. Anyone looking for a recraft upgrade is doing it to currently-equipped gear and losing use of it would make them either not take advantage of public recrafting opportunities (which would look identical to the current market) or make the customer very unhappy, in a way that they blame the devs for a “broken system”. And the devs know enough to not implement stuff that will needlessly cause more aggro on them.

With the current system, a recraft could mean the item you get back will have gone down in quality even if it’s meant to be the same ilvl (just changing stats for example). Even though the interface warns you of this when placing an order, it still has led to many complaints early in the expansion. Hopefully working one on one with a player will ensure your item goes to the desired rank once communicated.

Along the lines of an above response, requiring rank 5 in the interface is also problematic even for maxed out crafters because higher crafts may rely on a proc rather than using insight, and it won’t let you try to make it even if you can guarantee a rank 5 eventually. Even though I’m maxed out, I tell anyone requesting an order to remove the requirement because recrafting on the backend is cheaper for some professions. It’s also possible the original craft (or the ones you provide in the recraft order) used low quality mats and will take more recrafts to max than if I’d made it myself. It’s doubtful most public order tips would compensate adequately for putting maximum effort and supplies into the craft but there are surprises occasionally.
