That’s kind of the thing, actually. They didn’t do that until DC did their Infinite Crises in the 80s, and it was… controversial.
Now, it’s a much more common thing in comic books — and not as widely liked by fans. There’s a reason comic books have been in a decline since the 00s, after all.
I think that this is subjective. I honestly have never gotten that sensation from the game. It’s always reminded me of comic books.
