I agree, Void Elves have finally been brought into the story (10 years later…) and I still roll my eyes at their existence, despite the story doing everything to prop them up too. Like, they could have at least come up with lore that made the Void Elves alliance loyal high elves but they had to go ahead and establish they were a renegade group of Blood Elves too, they just missed every mark possible.
Anyway, Blizzard has made High Elves as boring as Blood Elves nowadays, so it’s all a wash.
9/10 Void Elves I see running around avoid using “void” cosmetics anyway. I agree with you that void elf lore is so sloppy though…
This makes so much more sesne, especially post-midnight.
On MG, almost every VE player I come across is usually RPing as a Blood Elf mercenary or a High Elf. I’ve seen a handful use the void customizations but it’s not that common.
This is one of the few times I will agree with Zerde. Blizz should’ve just saved themselves the headache and given the people who wanted High elves, playable High elves.
Giving the Alliance ‘High Elves’ just because handfuls of the Alliance wants them, sounds awfully like hubris getting its way in a rather biased outcome …
It’s insanely funny to me that High Elf Alliance players will continue to beat the drum over wanting more and more customizations.
Void Elves are Alliance side and at this juncture beyond the DH and maybe a rare warlock or two, have zero reason to be running around with fel green eyes.
You want fel green eyes? You play a blood elf, that simple.
After Midnights Elf reunification story, I honestly don’t think any arguements holds up anyone on why alliance doesn’t have playable High Elves. Mainly because they all put aside their differences and are working together now.
Honestly the kind of idiot that wants to die on the hill of “NOOO you’re not allowed customization!! Even if canonically Void Elves are former Blood Elves nooo!!!” need to be lobotomized
Like cuztomization is currently so subpar and you’re for some reason putting your foot down and saying “NO!” what a grade A moron
It blew the brains out of the Blood Elf racial identity with a shotgun filled with rotting sh t …
You had the Blood Elves apologise to the Silver Covenant for deporting them (Despite doing so for their open-dissent, treason and later even gleeful genocide)
And then had the Blood Elves argue “NEVER AGAIN!” – As if they should ‘never again’ defend their namesake …
The fact you also rewelcomed the Night Elves there, who honestly have no place amongst the Thalassian culture / society, if we’re being real with the lore — F#!% this game’s storytelling man. It’s dog$#!% now.
I’m starting to understand why people call it ‘Woke’ (although I despise the word) because the narratives lately feels like it’s been OVERLOADED with heavily democratized storytelling, along with obsessively insistent obnoxious virtue-signaling without nuance — and heavily enforces it, with little to no issue from others (That aren’t portrayed as an enemy).
Tinfoil hat on: Don’t you see?! It’s all part of Blizzard’s Cosmic Reset Program!
Step 1: Combine Troll regeneration, Blood Elf magical affinity, and whatever it is the Harranir have that lets them chill next to eldritch horrors without collectively losing their minds.
Step 2: Wait 40,000 years.
Step 3: Boom—Warcraft 40K.
The reunited elf empire becomes Warcraft’s version of the Eldar, Azshara is still ruining everyone’s existence 40,000 years later, and we finally get the dark, mature sequel with Diablo IV graphics we’ve all been waiting for.
…Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Jokes aside, I do understand where some of the concern comes from. I don’t think we’ve seen enough to conclude that’s where Blizzard is heading, but I do think it’s worth voicing concerns early.
Warcraft has always been strongest when its races and cultures genuinely felt different. Reconciliation is great, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of what made each group unique.
They don’t all have to agree with each other to stand together—and honestly, they shouldn’t. The differences are what made Azeroth feel like a world instead of one big faction with different color palettes.
And hey, if all else fails… grab some friends, create your own alternate timelines, and build the Azeroth you want alongside the official one. That’s half the fun of fantasy anyway.
It took a whopping, rotting, sloppy SHT → on the Blood Elves identity.
All to cater to the Belf-hating Silver Covenant elves, and the Void Elves … oh and the Night Elves who’d exiled them oh-so-long-ago and have scorned them for thousands of years explicitly for the culture the Blood Elves prided themselves upon.
Seriously, Blizzard’s writers may as well have got a gun and shot the Blood Elves in the head and pissed in the bleeding gun-hole wound of the skull while moaning. THAT’S the level disrespect applied to the Sin’dorei with the garbage Dawnwell story.
I’ve always thought the best fantasy worlds don’t make every culture agree—they give every culture a reason to exist. That’s what keeps a universe feeling alive. Nostalgia brings players back, but a living world gives them a reason to stay.
Trends change, but strong worldbuilding doesn’t. The franchises that last keep adding identities, not flattening them.
At their best, universes don’t survive by making everyone alike. They survive by making everyone worth caring about.
But if this isn’t setup—if this really is the direction we’re heading—Azshara won’t have to manipulate anyone.
Everyone will already agree.
If there ever is a Seventh Cosmic Force, I think we already know what it’ll be:Consensus.
I doubt it’s a setup to be honest
The narrative + dialog of the Dawnwell story deadset reeks of obnoxious virtue-signaling. lol
It’s no surprise so many are claiming that the writing just feels like it’s self-projected ideology placed into the game as someone’s own personal Reddit & BlueSky-validation platform.
Now personally, I don’t think that with ALL the game myself, but I can certainly see where they’re coming from with such set-ups and narratives like that.
Pure, uncorrupted Elves to contrast the Fel-Corrupted Elves
Alliance-loyal
Weren’t satisfied by the
Created out of thin air random insert new race
Utterly corrupted worse than anything the Blood Elves did
Double traitors, being former Blood Elves and betraying that loyalty too
Wow, imagine that. Imagine how people aren’t satisfied. It’s almost like it missed every mark.
People like Elves. Obviously. You don’t need to put some stupid edgy “void” spin on them to make them interesting. Also, if you’re so annoyed by the High Elf requests… don’t read them? It’s not like they’re being directed at you.
I LOVED playing High Elves in TurtleWOW before it shut down. And I’m not one of those Blizzard-hater players, I just really like finally having the opportunity to play my favourite race. It was the main thing that drew me there.
Said OG race renamed themselves and became blood elves joining horde later
You cant be a fan of the race if you literally ignore the story of said race for your own fanfic.
And they would be called the 4th reich elves?
“i want pure elves to play” is such a disgusting line of though especially when blood elves are not “fel-corrupted”.
the high elves in wow that were “alliance-loyal” were also made out of thin air, since all of them became blood elves in wc3, so its only fine to be made out of thin air if its to your liking.
Yeah cause high elves did not betray their former kin and went slaughtering them by joining the alliance, no sir.
On the EU - those High Elf fans are stating that ever since the end of TBC, Alliance High Elves have returned to Quel’Thalas and joined the Magisters and Farstriders; that way - those organisations have not been fully Horde-based since TBC.
I’m not sure if that’s true as they can’t point to anywhere in the lore where that’s happened - they just say it happened…
It is stated that after TBC the elves were given the right to pilgrimage to the sunwell, just that.
If they ever joined their ranks again - which is a fair assumption since there would be no reason to not go back and live in their own city with their own people again, and blue eyes elves started to show up after that - is not stated
But even if they did came back, saying “these organizations arent fully-horde-based” is the highest level of copium, its just another HE-fan fanfiction in their tentative to remove the blood/high elf theme/aesthetic from the horde.
