Why Can't All Death Knights Breathe Underwater?

Should still apply. They want to be undead, they get all the downsides and upsides.

Hey now, that armor is heavy!

because it’s race ability.

They’re not a normal type of undead. Undead don’t all have the same properties.

Skeletons shouldn’t have to deal with things like disease. Even if its in the game, it’s simply an inaccuracy. Remember. The game does in fact contradict the lore in many places. It’s ok.

Then you have banshees, ghouls, zombies, freshly risen, lighforged undead. etc.

This is a QUOTE from a movie!
But I forget which one!
Dracula Dead and Loving It?

Princess Bride.

Princess Bride. But its slightly different for the exact quote.

Depends on who you ask and on which server. :astonished:

I asked this question before, but got the most snarky reply that made too much sense to ask again.

I forgot what it was tho…

Game mechanics.

DK’s dont need to eat, sleep, or breathe. They never get hungry and they never tire so they can exert themselves 100% nonstop.

That comes alongside the ‘unholy’ strength and rune magic. All of these reasons and more are why DKs are one of the strongest classes in-lore.

Stop trying to make sense! You’re a disgrace.

well we wear plate armor so we should be drowning to the ocean floor because of all that weight, so over that i will breathe underwater

And yet despite our lack of tiredness, I’m the fat kid bringing up the rear in raids and mythics.

With Shadowlands around the corner, pre launch event should allow me wraith walk indefinitely or at least get a speed boost.

Why do DH and monks get all this unfair speed?

What colour does a void elf turn when they hold their breathe?

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you. I just finished reading Arthas which dropped early this year and they made it brutally obvious Arthas as a DK was stupid fast and speed blitzing people in fights.

With how often Blizz retcons their own lore ive just accepted they have no idea what they want to do with DKs and what our flavor should be.

The very first quest:

" All that I am: anger, cruelty, vengeance - I bestow upon you, my chosen knight. I have granted you immortality so that you may herald in a new, dark age for the Scourge"

As well as in the in game books in the DK starter area such as Guide to the Side Effects of Reanimation:

"Welcome to the Scourge. Now that you have entered your true service, you may find immense relief in your liberation from various mortal inconveniences. No bothersome sleeping to take up your time anymore, nor any great need for shelter from the elements, and you are even free from the mild irritation of cutting hair and nails! How delightful!

However, there are a few, almost insignificant, details to being undead:
Keep an eye on your rotting. Some is all very well to scare your foes, but an arm falling off mid-stab is just embarrassing.
Learn to love your stench. Some say foul, we say rawrr.
Avoid living animals, especially dogs.
Heed your unintelligibility. Should you misplace your lower jaw, you may be reassigned to a position where gurgling is not amiss, and few of those hold any prestige.
Alcohol is simply not the same. My apologies.
A bloodbath a day keeps the living away (although adding bubbles is frowned upon).
Avoid pastels. They simply do not work with our coloring.
Those pants will no longer make you look fat."

While this is not about DKs specifically… Prince Erazmin outright states to the DK player that:

“I understand your kind do not require sleep on a biological level…”

Which seems to go with the above of not requiring sleep. Add in the fact the intro to the starting area is really not that vague, plenty of dks are raised, etc I think it’s pretty clear they are dead.

That always gives me a chuckle.

just say its a game mechanic, not everything is a 100% lore wise in the game…

i mean after all, with all this war nonsense going on, the blood elves should be extincted by now.

The former scourge members had breathing exorcises that the Death Knights were redeemed from.

Didn’t Arthas go into a coughing fit when he got gassed?
