Because they aren’t as popular as you think they are. They are nostalgic, and classic examples of folks going “I want this” and then when pressured on any of the implications of implementing it, as well as the necessary concessions to make them work … folks realize why these races haven’t ever been candidates.
Ethereals have had the best shot with the latest patch, but seems to not have been the case. So… yeah, these suggestions just aren’t what you think they are.
break glass in case of emergency
All of this talk and not one person has mentioned making Basic Campfire a race. Deplorable.
Shouldn’t mean it’s what they should do. Unofficial servers had these 4 races and added gear (except ethereal) to them just fine, Blizz being lazy shouldn’t be the status quo.
Not sure what this has to do with anything besides saying the tiny races aren’t very popular.
Citation needed. I’d be surprised if they didn’t hit respectable numbers considering these are extremely popular. Blizzard honestly should do polls for races going forward realistically.
They wouldn’t need to shoehorn, there have been multiple occasions where each could’ve been implemented in many patches and expansions.
This was only said because Zandalari would be odd as a customization for trolls since they use the NElf Rig for Males, and Vulpera ain’t Goblins.
Blizzard is allergic to success and easy money. They don’t want to feel as though “the playerbase is dictating what they have to do” so their pride kicks in and messes things up.
Related… I still can’t figure out why Earthen at all. They’re just awful. Does even 5% of Wow players main one of these things?
Because what the player wants only matters when it comes to handouts of old content rewards.
We’ve been after Ogres since inception.
And couldn’t they just do what they did for mechagnomes and make those slots untransmogable
Like High Elves!

I’ve always wanted Naga ;_;
It’s because the players are wrong. They need to hear moral and political messages that only enlightened game developers can instill through stories. /s
I can already see the next expansion tanking. Indigenous troll-elf peoples telling “colonizers” that their customs and ethics are all “wrong” for blah, blah reasons is going to go over so well. Going to be even more cringe than Chromie’s visage questline.
Unsure how accurate it is, but this is what a lot of sites are using, Data For Azeroth is showing only 1.1% of characters are earthen at max level lol so not even
I know there hasn’t been much talk about Forest Trolls in this thread, but as a race concept, they are a popularly desired one. Now, I know, there’s a high tendency to write them off because they weren’t announced at Gamescom this year, and admittedly, this feeling is deserved. Blizzard has one of, if not the most, abysmal track records of all time when it comes to fulfilling popular player desires. However, I think there’s still a chance that we could see Forest Trolls become a new race. The reason, as I see it, is because they are a race that requires nuance, which is to say, the reason they weren’t announced is because (1) they are a race with an incredibly complicated history that needs to be further developed in-game, and (2) Blizzard is likely withholding the announcement so that it can be a surprise during the expansion. The second of these reasons is one that I find quite stupid, as all it does is cause people who want forest trolls as a race to lose hope. Blizzard, however, seems to think differently. But I would encourage people not to lose hope. The backlash over forest trolls not being announced at Gamescom was immense (for a few days, admittedly), and it’s unlikely that Blizzard didn’t catch wind of that. Popular streamers and YouTubers have also talked about the race not being announced and have expressed their disappointment, which is another thing I imagine Blizzard will take note of.
I understand Orcs are seminal to the lore, but I don’t like them and therefore don’t play them.
I still find it incredible the ways Blizzard comes up with brand new races to jam in as playable while established and requested races still get stuck on the sidelines, like Sethrak would still be such an awesome race but instead we’re now on Dwarf race #3 and Elf Race #5
Let us be ogres, they’ve been part of this horde forever and were gunna be added in Cata
We have ogre toys that make us just slightly taller than Zandalari and that’s all we need
No real transmog issues as they’re quite humanoid
Yes, Sethrak and Saberon would have been very cool races in my opinion.
90% of my toons ( Max amount of toons for this account im told) are Belf and the ones who arent belf are not Belf because they cant be that class. Shaman, Druid, Evoker.
Orcs got a bit of an upgrade when they were allowed to be upright. Would do better with more skin color options… decent racials makes them popular.
Trolls i cant stand the look or gait.
Tauren are the only option for druids because troll options are weird and the colorization are not my cup of tea. ( would have loved dark skinned/black tigers or pale skinned/white tigers… without the tusks et al.) Though Zandalari are interesting… just again… not the look im going for.
Vulpera… im just not sure i want to follow in the Furry footsteps of this race that i never heard of till that particular Expansion.
Padaren are kinda neat if not niche… though i would have been nice to see non Kung-fu Panda body types… so i only play as the females.
Goblins… i just cant.
Undead i probably would have made more toons except no matter what you cant make them look similar to the Banshee Queen (ever hear of FRESH undead?? Good looking people die too)
Nightborne just look kinda goofy and awkward and dont seem to move with the grace one would typically associate with how an elf would move… they seem to more of less Do-dee-do along when they walk.
Dracthyr are kinda cool but i made a post elsewhere about wishing they had a 4-legged travel look (that already exists) rather than mounting up on a lizard-horsicorn thing.
I probably should have went Alliance but i didnt like the look of most of their races way back in BC… they have all been modified a bit and have nice, more appealing skins but i dont want to shill out the $$$ to faction change everyone… PLUS i have spent SO many years as Horde… i get lost when i try to play Alliance because of my lack of time in their lands.
Setherak would have made an awesome race. Saberon too. There was another race i feel that would have been decent… they were like a bear race but not the ones in the Nelf starting areas. I “think” these were in Northrend somewhere but i cant think of their name.
Anywho, just my 2 cents on races. Less fugly for Horde. Maybe introduce half-breeds for a more hamanesque appearance. Half Orc, Half Troll. Half Tauren… etc. Just an idea.
Not interested in playing any of those races. Only one I would be interested in is kobold and only if it gets those NPC lines of “Not my fault” and “Don’t kill me” so I could make it a tank and use those lines when things go wrong.
It’s an observation that if goblins ended up being a niche pick despite their historical ties to the Horde in everything from WCII to Wrath, then the outcome more than likely wouldn’t be very different for ogres, who are in more or less the same position as the former were.
A number of blindly devoted support groups saying they want X doesn’t mean that X would have universal appeal if it was added, specifically in the current age where people consider how a race looks in gear to be a top priority; see the requests for Kul Tirans to get extra body types and dracthyr to be able to show all of their gear.
