This made me LOL so hard, its so true (for me at least lately), this has been a cringe point of fantasies stories for the longest time to me! Every single time a story uses this trope like: “A teen or adult wanting to go back to being a normal person and have a normal life, who hates having powers, immortality or traveling to worlds of magic etc…” My eyes roll to the moon!
Even my nephew finds it as he call it “stupid”.
He once ask me why are stupid people getting powers all the time if they dont want it, he din’t understand the point of such a borring story as he put it.
It was hilarious!
Not sure if its “ego-stroking to placate the normies”, but I can agree that this type of Troup treating mortality or having a normal life as a super power or something to be desired given the chance to have real super powers, is not very popular with the newer generation! lol
And I think its because it been overuse, time have change and people view life differently nowadays, not necessary because it dosen’t have a place within fiction. (IMO)
