Well to be honest that is a tiny bot of truth in real world as advanced tech tends to be more efficent than crude ealier tech. Anywho yeah msgic magi tech or gnome tech good orc or goblin tech bad lol
Badly made guns can misfire. Just like poorly forged swords can break the first time you swing it.
Yeah, if you are a crappy wizard.
How about a magic bullet fired from a dwarven sniper and his âwell craftedâ high-powered 7.62 caliber rifle from 1 kilometer away?
Oh and his rifle was also magic- Passed down for generations and forged in the heart of the mountain and infused with the- blah blah blah and the yadda yadda, or whatever.
The point is, guns beat swords everytime.
Only in contrived fantasy stories that abuse every cliche trope in the book do swords come out on top.
I rode a jet fighter back to boralus yesterday after doing my mechagon quests. Iâve had a helicopter as a flying mount since BC. Oddly enough, none of this has bothered me. Iâve thought about it, but itâs never bothered me that much. Hereâs why.
The only class in the game that doesnât employ some form of magic is the warrior. Unless transmogged otherwise, however, the warrior is wearing extremely thick armor that is usually made from magically imbued metals.
Rogues can disappear. Like⌠literally disappear. If you donât see someone at all before they stab you, a sword is still amazingly effective.
Hunters have, what I think we can agree is a magical connection with their beasts.
Paladins literally have the same magically imbued plate armor, and a shield they can cast that makes them immune to any harm, including gravity, for a good chunk of time.
Death Knights see your guns, and raise you death grip. They also have that same magically imbued armor.
Monks have magic, and superhuman reflexes. I assume this gives them the ability to make bullets seem slow? They have magic too, so thereâs that.
Iâm gonna stop now, because literally everyone has the ability to make guns a minor inconvenience rather than the great equalizer they are on earth.
We also have something else in game that makes guns less terrifying: Healing magic. In the most recent Golden book, Anduin literally offers to cure his long time butler of cancer with the light. The only reason the butler didnât accept this was because he wanted to die so he could be with his wife (who plot twist: was actually a forsaken, and not dead at all. sucks to suck, eh buddy?) and other members of his family.
The point is⌠we have magic armor, magic itself to stop bullets, and if by chance your bullet pierces all of that, my glowing yellow magic, or a druids plant magic, or a shamanâs water magic (etc⌠etcâŚetcâŚ) is going to fix any damage your bullet may have done unless your bullet crits. No, head shots donât count, which is why most of our leaders donât wear helmets. Itâs like everyone in WoW lore agreed shooting someone in the head was against the rules.
So yeah. TL;DR: Itâs magic man. Donât think about it so hard.
I should also point out that I had a HUGE problem with the siege towers in the Siege of Lordaeron. Itâs well established that we have flying mounts. And airships. And space ships in orbit that can obliterate whatever the story wants them to obliterate. Why did any one of us need siege towers?
Just gotta not think that hard. If you think too hard about any of this, your brain will melt.
Man, warriors kinda suck when you put it like that. Imo fury warriors should have always had some lore reason for being too angry to die or something like that.
Arm warriors are worse off than fury, as they are just dudes swinging a metal stick around very well. They should be arm masters that switch weapons mid fight, like this
And yes, that would include pulling a gun on you like the rogue does
People keep making this mistake this total just missing it when it comes to the Vindicarr. It did not have a nuke from orbit gun⌠unless you consider an altitude of 500 feet to be âorbitâ. And it was far far from being a nuke of any kind⌠best it could do is blast some rocks and open a door. And maybe once in a while we could damage a demon with it.
donât lose sight of the the forest for the trees with my comment. the vindicaar wasnât the point of my post. My point was⌠siege towers were a good target for sylvanas if she wanted to kill lots of alliance crammed into the confines of a wooden tower, and not much else, and they were made even dumber by the fact that most all players present are gods of war, and could have flown over the wall, parachuted in like in the Arathi warfront, or an airship could have blasted the walls down just like Jainaâs ended up doing anyway.
What you apparently lost the point of is that cinematics are designed to give you awesome fist pump moments, not be realistic depictions of combat⌠THEY NEVER HAVE BEEN.
And honestly the massive melding of various aesthetics is sort of the thing that makes WoW distinct amongst other IPs. Iâm not sure I want that to change.
Im pretty sure that when you have laser rifles, anti gravity backpacks and full body augmentation a la deus ex/robo cop its a genre above mere steampunk.
A logical in-universe explanation could be cost effectiveness and availability of materials. Guns are relatively complex machines whereas swords require less skill and time and cost to produce.
I guess I thought of the warrior as a less powerful version of goku or trunks. I donât consider their evergy blasts to be magic, for some reason. Not sure why. its definitely magic.
Just a few things from my point of view⌠we arent humans, or like humans such as we are in RL. They are faster, stronger, more durable. Could completely changed their ability to get into close combat and the force behind each blow of a sword which could make swords stronger than guns. Also⌠imagine that each sword is strongly enchanted, which would allow it to go through other magical protections, now imagine having to do that for each bullet that gets shot. Just some ideas on why guns arent the end all be all. Even the in game enchants for bows arent increasing their damage but increasing their accuracy.
Because our Savior commanded us, âthou shalt not be a huntard, nor break bread with their beasts, nor share wine with any who calls such a one friend.â
