welcome to battle of azeroth; where the thought of time gated will make us stay and subscribe for longer. Sorry blizzard i dont like your game that much. Time gated is good on the side, but in BFA its the main ingredient and thats a problem. your game will die out like that
09/04/2018 04:11 PMPosted by SanítyfallsIt should be like wintergrasp where you can take it every few hours.
It should most definitely not be like Wintergrasp, where on some servers the same faction held it for several weeks.
Is there anything that is not time gated in this game ??

I'm asking in an all honest question. The 1 seemingly different thing we get this expansion - finally - and it's instantly time gated for everyone. We have to wait until Horde get it to take over, they have to wait until Resources are full to even begin enjoying it. Rinse and repeat for the Alliance when they get it.
Wait here, wait there... hurry up and wait. It's beyond out of hand now. I don't pay for the damn game and a monthly fee to be gated on everything I do because you want to Penny Pinch.
The term "Time Gate" gets thrown around here so much I dont think any one actually knows what an actual time gate is anymore. Just like Pay to win...
War fronts are not gated. Did you seriously not read or see any info on what warfronts are before today, get online and see the bar and jump straight to the forms spout dumb forum rhetoric?
Warfronts are a round robin style mechanic that flip flops between the two factions. someone always owns the warfront and it flip to other faction when it is time. IT is not a gate just someone had to start first which means the other faction gets the contributions and rep side first.
seriously learn about the mechanics of systems FIRST before opening your mouth.
On a more serious note i wouldn’t have a problem if the bar filled up faster.
It’s only at like 14ish? % right now?
I guess on track to have enough recourses for the weekend?
The scary thing is when it only sits there and says “14%”
How do I know this isn’t artificially gates by blizz itself where adding recourses doesn’t actually advance the meter?

You mean.. I actually have to preheat my oven and then put my cookies in? Then I have to WAIT for them to finish and THEN cool down before I can eat them?
Time gating is the worst.

You do all realize it isn't time gated? It is resource gated. The faster people contribute the faster the bar goes up to unlock them. Can't fight a war without steel in your hands and food in your belly after all.
"Time gated" is becoming yet another pointlessly tossed out phrase on these forums....
You see that bar when you try and queue? Yeah we, as Horde, need to fill that up. Currently Alliance has control and in time we'll take control. Its how the system works.

Owning Arathi is pretty boring. We get some pointless quests and a world boss. Maybe being on the attacking side is more fun. I don't know. I guess I'll find out next week. But so far I am super underwhelmed by both IEs and warfronts.

Resources take time to create/gather and contribute, and other players such as myself only have so much said time to gather resources... don’t dance around it, it’s time gated.

Lol hey genius, that’s time gating.

Actually, there's nothing to dance around. "Time-gating", as an actual legit term, is content that is set to release at a fixed time, regardless of player input. Dailies and weeklies, for example. Raids set to release on specific dates. Things the player can't influence by effort.
This isn't that. Just because it FEELS like a time-gate, doesn't mean it is. Let's not overuse a phrase incorrectly so often that it loses all meaning.
09/04/2018 03:53 PMPosted by RituxCan you look at something else aside from not being able to access something right away?
The purpose of the Warfront is strife between the two sides where we battle for control. When we get it, we have access to the stuff, similar to Wintergrasp. However, it gives a reasonable amount of time in which people can access the content. Not everyone is privileged to log on instantly when it happens.
They were abundantly transparent about this from the inception of Warfronts.
True, but none of this actually explains it. Having control of... whatever we have 'control' of changes nothing. Both sides spent the day farming the 120 Arathi for 'rare spawns'.
The actual battlefront is an instanced scenario. We (will someday) go beat up the horde at their logging camp (or whatever, it's currently filled with angry ghosts for some reason), and it has squat to do with the actual zone people are farming.
Since it is just 20 (25?) person instances, it makes no difference who has 'control' of the zone. We could easily just do it and move on. No enemy players are involved for anyone. How 'progressed' the other side is on the percentage meter of <whatever they are collecting> is irrelevant.
They launched today, and we killed 100 irrelevant non-faction mobs for 'quests' and farmed various 'rare' (read: constantly respawning) elementals, animals and neutral sapients for... largely 25-30 AP each. Whatever war is on, were aren't involved in that. We're just wiping out all life in the highlands again, same as we did at level 40 (or whatever). Except all the story content was hacked out with a rusty spoon, and it's literally just kill 20 XYZ, because reasons. 5 times.
----
tl;dr- it's just more meaningless filler masquerading as content. One presumably designed to confuse people, since we get to sit on an assigned quest to 'Win the Battlefront' that we can't actually do for probably 5 or 6 days at least. [Pro-tip: Blizzard, don't assign quests that can't be completed. Let us know when we can actually do the battlefront]
Legion wasn't that bad except towards the end with gating. This is like Legion on steroids with all the gating and more RNG.09/04/2018 03:50 PMPosted by OrlyIts been world of gatecraft since Legion, the new dev overlords made sure of that.
09/04/2018 04:26 PMPosted by RandalthorEverything has a time gate. The time gates have a time gate.
Careful, or you'll be back in Draenor.
There are some misinformations in this post so here are some information about warfronts.
Warfronts are qued instanced PVE battle against the opposing faction and will last for a day or 2 and keep cycling between the factions.
Currently they are not active. They are more likely in a cooldown period and just forcing people to wait for nothing. This is the time-gated and has nothing to do with the warfront part.
The war effort is just an illusion. What players contribute means nothing as they are designed to switch sides at specific intervals. In short, even if noone did the turn ins the bar will progress.

i know right? it's like they are trying to foster hatred between factions like it' s some kind of war. . . . oh wait. . . .

You are [probably] technically correct. However, the number of inputs and the total needed to complete are both set by blizzard. They've got a fairly clear estimate of how long <faction player base> will take to collect <hidden number> of <collectable things>, and can modify the numbers if any problematic things start happening.
No matter how much 'extra' a hypothetical Billy and Kevin do to push the Horde collection effort, they aren't going to tweak the progression one iota. Given the player base, the numeric goal and the sheer size of those numbers, it is simply a statistical improbability, even assuming that the progression bar actually reflects real numbers and isn't just an illusion. The collection effort of real numbers (X players will collect Y resources in Z hours) vs a time based estimate created by Blizzard isn't actually distinguishable with the data we're given (a percentage bar).
--
Also realistically, this player base can be self-centered jerks. Sooner or later (probably when this was in beta, actually), someone more than likely realized that being on one side of collecting or waiting was probably strictly better than the other in terms of loot drops or similar benefits.
It won't take people long to propagate the idea that you might not actually want to contribute if you can farm <benefit> instead. So it's probably globally for the best if the effort actually progresses through an independent clock rather than the possibly non-existent efforts of the player base. Or deal with longer times on one side or the other due to the imbalance in faction populations...

Yea and that is why it is s h i t is all the dude was saying, idc tbh I am just going to collect my mog and stop, collecting sets is the only thing in this game for me anymore.

You wait for your cookies to cool down before eating them? Eating them warm is the best part!
