Why are some people mad at that ending?

For those that are upset…all of the above. Personally i liked the video quite a bit and i thought it was very fitting for her outing herself and her true motivations.

For me it comes down to context though, why did she out herself there and do the loyalists get to follow along in her new capacity as void emissary or whatever… or canonically does she not need followers any more… the whole thing just feels forced and restrictive to player agency.

I really enjoyed the Saurfang and Anduin clip.

You’re a member of the infantry. Tirion/The Argent Crusade defeated the Lich King, Maeiv defeated Illidan, Thrall & The Dragon Aspects defeated Deathwing, Illidan/Velen and the reawakend Titans contained Sargeras and defeated argus etc, with “the help of valiant heroes”

So you can see her mood change over the course of the fight as Saurfang taunts her with her failures, she hits a point where she screams the truth after being cut. As far as not needing followers, this is covered in some detail in the book Before the Storm where she talks about how things have changed with the Forsaken and the Council in charge while she is absent and the events that follow. For me this is important context for where she is “emotionally” at this moment.

Having said that i think it sucks that those events aren’t translated in the game (as with things over time in the books since they started making the books) and i think it leaves a bit of a hole and i can see how people aren’t seeing some of the context. However i always thought something like this would happen, i don’t see them doing the Garrosh thing and making her a raid boss to kill off and now we know how she has gotten to exit the Horde and “live”.

The more important part for me is where do the Horde and Alliance go from here? DID Saurfang break the cycle? What are the implications in game? I think it is all very interesting personally.

I gave two crap about what happened at the ending and Slyvanas. The entire cinematic could have been Thrall, Saurfang and Sylvanas, but then they had Anduin there to be Saurfang water boy AND then give Saurfang his father’s sword…

Like…WTF?

Also he’s was all but falling over himself to pick up Saurfang, I bet the Alliance troops was confused as heck too. Like why were they there?

Because as Anduin said he “set him on the path” and Saurfang saw it to the end by giving his life to save others and slaughter. He was the Honorable Orc that Anduin knew him to be. Anduin didn’t give Saurfang his sword to keep, he gave it to him for the Mak’gora to use in a show of unity. Saurfang knew he couldn’t win, knew he was probably going to die but he met his fate in a way that laid Sylvanas out to bare to all others so they could see her for who she is.

Because some people will not be happy no matter what happens in the game.

Because night elves never got revenge for the genocide of their people. Because it showed sylvanas has extreme plot armor. Because it made it look like saurfang was weak. Because the writing has been horrible, and this “ending” was no exception. I could go on. The point is, there are a lot of reasons to dislike the story.

They said it would not be garrosh 2.0…

It’s not the end of the story. It’s the end of the war campaign. Let’s not get the two confused.

8.3 will go into more detail about Sylvannas, her end game and N’Zoth you can count on that.

All of this.

Ah…yes, the famous “Naruto” approach to writing villains.

A good series needs a villain to survive over and over till they decide to end show this is why new Star Wars movies fails—no Darth Vadar because whatever his name is a pussy Solo.

Some of us want to pick up Blackhand’s legacy. Some of us want to pave roads with skulls.

I think Nerzhuls story ended once the Lich King ascended. The being wasn’t Arthas, nor was it Nerzhul. They duked it out and “merged”. The Lich King was neither Arthas nor Nerzhul, but some amalgam of who they were forged into something new.

I do not, personally, believe that Nerzhul exists anymore. I don’t think he existed after Arthas ascended the throne (nor did Arthas “truly” exist).

So, while I agree that I wish there was more, I believe that Nerzhul was snuffed out, merged into something far greater, and was lost. His goals and purposes snuffed out by an ambition he couldn’t control.

I guess the thing is: who actually looks cool here?
The Alliance? They didn’t do anything.
Genn and the Night Elves? They were explicitly thwarted.
Anduin? Reduced to a spear-carrier.
Tyrande? She’s too good to even show up for vengeancefest 2019?
The rebels? Somehow, despite the allegiance of basically every Horde leader, they were made to look pathetically small.
Saurfang? Almost. But he gets beat in melee, and then one-shotted when she decided to use magic.
Sylvanas? She ranted her whole evil-reveal at the slightest provocation, and then decided to peace-out with a witch’s cackle.

Bannerbae.
The answer is Bannerbae.
She’s the only one who looks cool here, because the power of her side-eye brought peace to Azeroth.

Let’s be honest, this entire expansion was more about the civil war between Sylvanas and Saurfang rather than a full faction war as we were told. Teldrassil was the event that kick started this civil war and we heard nothing from those characters ever again.

But what bothers me the most is how we got 4 cinematic of Saurfang whining about failing the Horde, and absolutely nothing for the races and characters that were affected the most, like the Night Elves, Worgen, Tyrande, or Talanji.

The Alliance was truly just a prop for the Horde to deal with its millionth problem again.

We don’t know if the Night Elves get revenge or not yet as bleak as that might seem right now. I do have a vision of Tyrande killing Nathanos in a raid setting though.

Sylvanas always had plot armor. And that’s why even having her in the Horde was an issue. She’s been plotting against the Horde since Vanilla and almost got caught in Wrath with the whole Putress incident. This was natural development for her character as she’s always been self-centered, rash, and can’t accept failure. That was shown at Darkshore and here in the cinematic. She’s never cared about the Horde or the Forsaken — only vengeance.

Yes, Saurfang looked weak. Because he’s really, really old. Meanwhile, Sylvanas is ageless and infused with shadowy death magic. I mean, the opening cinematic shot literally shows it seeping out of her. And Saurfang was surprised at her strength when she parried his opening blow. He knew from the beginning he was going to lose the Mak’gora in hopes of winning the war.

I don’t know. I find the cinematic satisfying overall.
