“Players” like Asmon, running around ordering his minions to “report this player. He tagged a quest mob before me”. (He openly acknowledged that he WILL and WANT to abuse report system)
Because they have a negative impact on other people’s gameplay : Asmon and his army enter your questing area. Now you need to leave.
Because they will flood chat in seconds
Because they have 0 respect for other players.
#nochanges . Streamers weren’t here, they should be banned.
And don’t hesitate to create DMCA request on twitch IF your player NAME is visible on the screen of any streamer. I know I will.
The visual world is generated by Blizzard. If blizzard authorize them to stream it: no problems.
My name is NOT generated by blizzard. (Look on MMOGlider vs Blizzard lawsuit. This lawsuit established a lot of interesting facts)
If not, you can report them for unauthorized music broadcast. I’m not sure Spotify (some of them use) allow you to restream to large audience for free.
You can report Abuse and adult content the moment you see any “adult” word in CHAT and their channel is “all audiences”.
And if they dare to say F bomb, you can complain to twitch directly, as your 10 years old son was exposed to mature content without warning.
It’s a very grey area. No one cares about them enough to bring lawsuits and it’s ok. But you can.
One of his followers makes a “Why does everyone hate Asmongold thread?” and feigns ignorance to get people who largely don’t care one way or another to say they don’t care and then he goes, “SoMEoNe MaDe A ThrEaD AboUt MEEE?!?!” and then proceeds to stream about it while making goofy faces?
I’ve seen like 3 clips of the guy and that’s all he does in the clips.
Hell, if you are in Europe, you can ask twitch to remove a video with your toon based on personal data protection. (Right to be forgotten)
You can even ask twitch to produce every single video where your toon is shown. (Ofcause they have no possibility to do it, but you can ask and then complain to authorities)
Edit : Ofcause for it to work, you need to prouve that knowing your toon name can bring to you personally.
I’m almost tempted now to roll on EU server, create a toon with my real name and then just follow a streamer.
You can attempt to use Twitch’s report system all you want(the worst this will get you is banned from Twitch), but an actual DMCA takedown is a different matter.
People can try to use that if they really want, but it’s rather stupid to take the risk when if you want to just be petty about streamers you can try to abuse Twitch report policy.
YouTube is filing a lawsuit against somebody now for trying to hold channels hostage by using DMCA claims.
Not aware of this being available in the US-- which is where most streamers are located on NA servers. Not sure this qualifies under personal data since there’s nothing personal actually being broadcasted.
It doesn’t give out anything that identifies the player by account name, password, or actual name.
Understandable, if the steamer in question decided to place your given name on display-- that, I believe, could qualify.
It’s ify waters-- if it bothers you that much to be on a streamers stream, then I don’t think there is much recourse outside of the game.
If you have grounds (at least plausible / good) explanation, it’s a different story.
And you know how you can make your DMCA request 100xmore powerful? Write it on paper and make it delivered vs signature to their head offices.
There is a fine line in video games tho :
I press space. My toon jumps. Now :
The animation is 100% Blizzard property. Their engine generated the visual effect of jumping.
BUT : the pressing on space key is MY “creation”.
My point is, if enough of players start to feel bad or “hate” streamers, a collective effort can take down any streamer in matter of hours. And he’ll probably will pay legal fees until the end of his life.
Honestly, look at the lawsuit I mentioned. Here is an interesting fact :
WoW files installed on your computer are YOUR property and not Blizzard. You are free to edit them as you wish.
But Blizzard is free to reject any request coming from modified files.
But how would that work-- You’ve made a character with your name that is in a game that is publishing that name to everyone in game.
It seems nonsensical to award you with personal details have been violated when you placed them out there to begin with-- They were already public knowledge to some degree.
You are giving consent to Blizzard to use your toon name in all Blizzard services. \
As far as I know, Twitch is not a Blizzard service and there is no agreement on personal data sharing between Twitch and Blizzard. If there is one, it’a different story (Way more important)
You didn’t give consent to Twitch to use your name.
Look at it this way :
Let’s say you have a work/school account with your name.
If tiers party gain access to this information through screen capture and share it to millions of people, commenting on how bad you are at work/school, would you allow it ?
And it doesn’t matter if streamer is in US or let’s say France. The target is Twitch.
You need to qualify on this : Living in Europe. As it happens, I still have a legal address in Europe.
