but back to the topic of why does it matter? you’ll never know if I am using a addon or not, or what weak auras im using.
I wish this lie would crawl into a hole and die.
The devs say things like that as a face-saving measure.
Which of these 2 is more likely for the developers to say in public:
- The gameplay is bad because we, the developers, are bad at our jobs.
- The gameplay is bad because we’re forced to do things because of those mean old add-ons.
Even if #1 is the truth, they’re gonna spout out #2. And people are gullible enough to believe it, I guess.
Because the encounters are designed to use them, they are balanced around them and made more complex because of them. This is known and not really debatable. Some people don’t care for the design.
Its not about you.
Like what?
Can you give an example of an encounter you did recently that required an addon?
No, not required. Just a level of complexity and things happening at one time to give players a challenge while their awareness is significantly improved from addons.
Current dungeon trash has more mechanics than old raid bosses.
Many add ons exist to decrease the learning curve of the game. Knowing encounter mechanics, timing, and what abilities to use to counter them and getting better at executing is what drives a lot of players to improve. Knowing you don’t need to do any of that and that you can just push the button that lights up when an add on tells you to is a really deflating thing for some people. Yeah, they could still play without it, but why bother?
I have no issues with addons, I use them myself, but if you’re using addons to spam, especially spamming a combination of words that makes me wish I couldn’t read, I have an issue. However, that is the fault of the user, not the addon itself (unless it was designed specifically to spam).
Okay.
Good thing addons don’t do any of that, then.
For me it’s more of a bewilderment that most of them haven’t been integrated into the game.
Though I’m actually really impressed by what they did with the base UI Editing options. I just use that now.
They’ve been doing that since vanilla. “Everyone download decursive for lucifron”
Granted its not every add on. But some. And also im just answering the question, not taking a side.
They do though?
DBM tells you when to interrupt or when to CC because something can’t be interrupted, it tells you when to soak or when to run out or spread, it tells you when afflicted/incorp spawns and a timer for it, etc. And rotation addons literally light up what buttons to press next for dps. (Yes, I know they aren’t great compared to high skill player, but they are better than a mediocre player)
Decursive hasn’t worked in a very long time.
Does it? I haven’t used DBM in years. It didn’t last time I saw it.
Definitely tells you when to interrupt (on the mob you are targeting at least) and when to soak or spread. Not sure about the affix stuff.
We wouldn’t need boss mods if the games default UI wasn’t so dogs***.
That and Blizzard insists on designing a few bosses around WAs
So it also tells you where to soak? And with whom? Whether to use a defensive?
The claim is that the addon tells you what to do.
If all it does is tell you “boss is casting this ability” then that’s not actually any use, you can plainly see that from the cast bar or spell effects.
Yeah I’m not making or defending the claim. Just relaying that bit of info.
Is this because you don’t use addons or because you use weakauras that do even more than DBM?
to be fair, people used to bother and make fun of people who didn’t use certain types of addons before, now it’s the other way around because asmongold said blizzard shouldn’t allow addons… just the classic wow player behavior
I only use details and framecolor, I think some people are super dependent on addons, the most recent example is people trying to make auras for the hearthstone boss spwan event lol i throught it was a joke at first…
ps: dbm is so dumb, figure the game by yourself
I generally play while looking at my monitor, and that deals with most mechanics.

So you don’t use combat related addons?
