Why Are People Excited for TBC Arena?

This post isn’t meant to flame or insult anyone who is excited for TBC arena, once Classic moves on to the next expansion, or so we think that’s how it’s going to go. I’m just genuinely curious why some arena players are excited for TBC arena?

I was only 10 years old when I played arena in TBC so I was never actually good at the game, but I remember there being a lot of cheesy stuff. It wasn’t a very balanced game IIRC.

So my question stands: why are you guys excited for TBC arena? I’d easily take Wrath, Cata, MoP, and even WoD arena over TBC in a heartbeat.

I don’t have very fond memories of Rogues stunlocking someone for 3 hours either, but to each their own.

I am excited for TBC PvP but not really a lot of hype for Arena. I just want to have awesome PvP again which means BGs and WPvP/Dueling. TBC was the perfect expansion as it built on an amazing MMO.

I am excited for Talent trees and good class design and that goes a long way for PvP. The game wasn’t diluted at all and just captured what an MMORPG should be about.

Really think they missed the boat with SL as they could of gone back to Talent trees again. There will never be PvP as good as TBC and parts of Wrath. The best class design and just amazing items and builds at the pinnacle of WoW.

it’s trendy to pretend you’re excited even if you didn’t play it, especially if you didn’t play it because you assume from all the years of “x was better than now” that the game was better and harder so you now look better

ahh yes.
SL/SL warlocks
Mace stun rogues
Mace stunhearld warriors
Viper sting hunter comps
1+ hour games
were viable strat is to kill the warlock pet so you can actually kill them. double healer hunter 3s that mana drain you, pretty much current dh mana rift style gameplay.

Windfury totem 2 hand enhance 1 shotting you.

This makes more sense. I see people on Classic General Discussion, in game, on these forums, and even on Reddit talking about how hyped they are for TBC arena, because that’s back when arena was good. In my personal experience, even though I was trash, TBC arena was very unbalanced.

Because nostalgia is a hell of a drug

Haha yes I remember some of these things, but not all. Definitely remember being stun locked by rogues for 9 years. I understand why people like the Classic WoW experience (I very much enjoy it myself), but I think the nostalgia goggles for TBC arena might wear off pretty quickly for some players.

It’s not so much the arena by itself but rather discovering a different iteration of my class, which I don’t really like as much since legion. I also miss abilities doing a lot of dmg  TBC and early wotlk were the only xpac I haven’t played so I’m looking forward to it

TBC’s one of those like, cult-fandom arena expansions. There’s people who have been playing it non-stop on privates ever since it ended, out of preference.

There’s some issues with proc items, rng, and such, but overall it’s a really interesting window into WoW’s design. I’m definitely excited to play in TBC with kick still on GCD for example. As a rogue TBC is one of the best times to experience the game. So I’m obviously approaching it with some bias, but my alt classes, Priest, Mage, Warlock, Warrior, and Paladin… I started playing all these classes in TBC, and I have similar fondness to their designs from back then as well. I really enjoyed Destruction in TBC, as well as my fire mage and Disc priest is just lovely. Never tried shadow back then so I’ll probably do that.

I’m of course looking forward to WOTLK more. But i’d say I don’t want to see cata->mop etc ever again. I’d definitely take TBC over cata, or mop.

Cata wasn’t happily received despite what it’s viewed as now in hindsight. And i have no idea why people praise mop when the first 3 seasons were the biggest messes this game had ever seen at the time. MoP magically fixed itself by the end of the expansion and had an amazing prideful season. But malevolent, tyrannical, and grievous were a huge mess.

Bc they either vaguely remember it and want to go back with the knowledge they have now or they didn’t play back then so its all new.

It won’t be as good as it was… tbc wasn’t even that crazy of a good arena xpac in retrospect compared to wotlk and mop.

This is a fun strategy and still valid up until they removed soul link as a universal defense and now destro has no weakness to compensate. Thanks for reminding us.

probably because they forgot warlock ruins that game too

We’ve come full circle!

It was my first expansion and it’s just a lot of fun memories. I like to keep it as that though.

As much as I’m looking forward to TBC arena, I actually agree with this.

I want Retail to be good, not longing for the past because of how horrible retail has become.

I shouldn’t WANT to go back to an earlier version of the game. Blizzard struck gold, failed to recognize what it was, and has kept mining down past every ore vein they uncover.

the game wasnt much fun back then, there was no timer in arena no dampening and matches went on for hours literally with mana drain warlocks and there was a bunch of other stupid mechanics, i remeber stormherald ill never forget getting chain stunned by a weapon proc.

I remember being in an AV when a gnome walked passed me with ‘Gladiator’ infront of his name. I was like ‘woah, where’d you get that title?’ lol.

I remember starting in BC and playing a warlock. I got wind of SL/SL build and went from noob to decent instantly. It was so broken. Perma fear, infinite mana, soul link, siphon on everyone nearby… You were literally a tank

I’d say it was worse than destro is now

Also, a question: Is DR not a thing for classic or TBC classic? I haven’t tried classic yet, but I remember BC didn’t have DR and certain specs could literally cc you forever

You don’t need balance for Great PvP. Some of my favorite RPG PvP games there were tons of broken builds and that made it fun. The key is that you can run a lot of different builds with great items and be really strong. You felt in control and like you had a chance to counter because of far better character design.

My favorite RPG PvP game of all time is Diablo 2. PvP in that for 6 years straight before TBC. Everything was broken so that is what gave you balance in a way and was the best PvP game and RPG game of all time.

So TBC is just a great MMORPG and because of that it has Great PvP.
