Except it wasnt a corrupt monarchy but a corrupt dragon/corrupt nobles. We learned that Anduin cleaned it up to the point most of the moderate Defias abandoned the organization so that only the most bloodthirsty ended up staying.
Anduin cleaned it up when Varian didn’t? Sounds corrupt to me.

Or it sounds like Anduin finally had time to deal with other problems now that the world wasnt in danger of being destroyed by Legion/Old God/Jailer.
Varian has time for a giant statue of himself but can’t deal with paying people or fixing food issues. Really got those priorities.

Or you know the statue was given him too. The dude lived a spartan life as per Wolfheart he wasnt exactly after extravagant things.
The dude hated by the Stonemason’s is supposedly getting gifted random statues while people starve? Still sounding pretty corrupt.

Didn’t the Westfall cleanup process begin while Varian was his whole self and king? I mean, had to get rid of the organized Defias Brotherhood, so that means dedicating military, but there was also a war to fight with the Horde, that also means dedicating military.
Also… in regards to Kobolds. What came first, the human mines or the kobolds? That is probably the biggest question. Neither quest in Elwynn Forest really makes any mention of whether Kobolds came in after or was there before the mines were… well… mines. We just know that they are described as ‘infesting’ them.
Also, kobolds are thieving little critters, stealing necklaces from innocent women! So rude.
Or he could have just paid them.

Orcs in ROP explicitly go against how Tolkien wrote them, is the problem.
This dude literally killed the dragon that caused the stonemason mess. And more importantly, he just lead the world in saving itself against the Emerald Nightmare. Pretty sure plenty of people would have gifted him a statue(ahem dwarves and gnomes)
Most of them didnt initially want to be paid and had caused untold amounts of deaths.

A dictator with values is still a dictator. And the Stonemasons felt it first that the nobility can rip them off with no consequences Anduin good intentions be dammed. They are still poor and fighting for mere survival while the monarchy keeps a standing army which has to be expensive.
I support any uprising against a system that keeps a handful of people rich and the rest starving.

The Defias had literally been terrorizing and killing the poor and styming any effort by the government to improve people’s live to the point the people of Westfall had organized to fight off the Defias.
In any case, the Defias are now a mostly defunct organization with them rejoining Stormwind society.

The Defias are freedom fighters and deserve redemption. The Wrynn bloodline must be stomped out.
Yeah not happening Erevien. And if Anduin’s comic comes true, Anduin will be an old man and probably outlive both of us.
Anduin protected a corrupted elite from harm who are feeding on the taxes imposed on Westfall peasants.
Onyxia’s death didn’t undo Varian’s failings. He still hadn’t paid them. Her death didn’t disband the Defias. I’m pretty sure his corruption is enough that he’d be fine building a statue of himself.
The issue was about pay. Pay Varian didn’t give.
