Aye, people also forget that Lovecraft himself wasn’t mentally all there. Dude lived in constant fear. His racism being a subject of this because anything not like him drove him actual mad. And not angry mad, like insanity mad.
Dude was not well but it did take his fears and put them into a mythology that is the backbone of many horror stories today.
Would I grab a drink with him? No way, he probably scream in fear if he saw me. Do I still like his work? Yes.
And again you’re advocating for the explictly racist part of his story, the fact that all monsters and humans descended from them are all evil, to stay. The letter is explicitly an allegory for race-mixing being bad. Never said you can’t enjoy Lovecraft.
Just don’t say it’s a out race mixing. The rest can stay. A lot of retelling of Lovecraft stories takes out the hate against anything non-white. The story still stays the same.
The movie in the mouth of madness took the Lovecraft story and remade it. Nothing to do with races.
Very fun movie. I recommend it for the month of Halloween
Fallout now has a lot of hidden Lovecraftian vibes as well. High society cults, them looting tombs to those they consider “lesser”, finding artifacts of ancient gods. Becoming immortal beings because of it but also going insane, a family hiding said immortlaity.
The themes are fun, regardless of the unsavory nature of the mind that thought up such themes.
Honestly I wouldn’t say “this one keeper was horrible” = all titans are bad. Considering the Keepers are not the Titans and visa versa.
Odyn being a villain should not reflect on the Titans. Given that the keeper that was designed to be his equal went into a deep depression at some point. But by that point Odyn had gone off to do his own thing.
We did have Algalon and the replay codes from Wrath but it is stated what the options are and why Algalon goes with either one. If the Pride Designate’s death had nothing to do with the Old Gods and there were no signs of critical system corruption, all is well. Otherwise, nuke the planet to be safe.
It’s amusing when you and others proclaim that the humans and high elves should be massacred for whatever excuses you can come up with, than suddenly it becomes an acceptable mentality to have
humans in WOW never suffered a genocide. But they committet some multiple times. If you want me to show sympathy towards the most spoiled, evil and land owning race the franchise has you will be disappointed.
Most Lordaeron refugees came to Stormwind. Which is doing fine. Same as Kul Tiras, Stromgarde and Gilneas. No other race has this much land, lore spotlight or characters to call their own.
They are basically priviliged.
You will either see Zerde or a occasional MHP see advocating for total Amani genocide. This is much worse then anything I write.
Aside from the “Cute Mascot Trope” I think the Nerubians specifically are for Arachnophobes. I mean sure, I get being afraid of spiders, but man have Arachnophobes ruined so many cool things!
Being honest though, I don’t mind the baby Nerubians, and we can’t argue that Nerubians weren’t humanized before, because they were as far back as WOTLK when we helped those guys fight back the Undead Nerubians under Anub’arak. My only issue is the big similarities the City of Threads bares directly with Suramar. The story is almost completely the same. The most unique thing thus far from the expansion is probably the Earthen, and that’s saying something sad. Though the Arathi are out of left field. Can’t believe Blizzard is supporting the light again, they were on a big trip of villainizing it since Legion.
Not really. Even in legion, only Xera was kinda being a zealot, the rest of the army weren’t painted as such.
Blizzard always had the light being good. The light being bad really are just outliers and not the norm.
But the sacred flame is interesting. It is a mix of arcane and light, both physical and not. The Arathi say it is closer to the elves Sunwells than the humans philosophy.
To me the Arathi and earthen are interesting. Don’t really care about spider people though.
