Why are folks upset about SL?

None of it is testable. We are not even able to get to level 60 on the alpha.

People will try to boil it down for views, but there are just too many decisions to make to expect them all to be equal.

A lot of it isn’t even throughput driven.

there should be a best aoe/cleave, a best pvp utility/output, and a best throughput

it’ll say something like “go x for m+, use this soulbond in this situation, that in this other situation”

you can already see in the venthyr covenant that mad duke is a potential meme soulbind, he’s got a slot specifically for the ember court minigame, or transmog costs

I believe they’ll be broken down quite easily

wait, what?

We are at the start of Beta, everything that is going to be baked into the game is there. Given this, of course the community is disappointed by the dismal lack of details, and of course they have a right to expect more details. One need only look at the Wowhead bingo card to see width and breadth of topics the community was expecting to hear.

Some of topics wowhead expected to be covered include:

  • Virtual Blizzcon?
  • Castle Nathria Preview
  • Legendaries Preview
  • Professions Preview
  • Allied Races
  • New Foresaken Leader
  • Tier Sets
  • GCD Changes
  • new Cinimatic
    more about Nathanos’ escape.

Other topics not discussed:
What about Pet Battles: specifically currency changes, ability changes, Dungeons?
What about Pathfinder: unlocking details, what patch is flying available?
What about bag space? Any changes to this?
What is changing with world quests?
What is happening with fishing? anything new?
What about cooking?
What about transmog? aka “new-mage tower”?
What about connected realms? any details?
What about covenant swapping, how hard?
When is the last day to buy the bronto-mount? (Pre-patch event or SL lauch date? or some other date?)
Is there going to be a pre-patch event?
if so, when and how long is the pre-patch event going to last?

There are so many topics are barely discussed, if at all.

The new system requirements have some people like wtf. I mean their asking for better specs than cod warzone. Just to run recommended you need a i7 6th gen with a 1080 or higher with 8gb vram lol my 2060 failed cause it only holds 6gb vram and I passed everything else. You can go to canirunit on google and see if your system will run any game on min or max

Probably because people get upset at calls for equality. Just like people got upset at the movie industry for bringing in interracial marriage and accepted gay people. In culture shifts people always ask “why are these entertainment companies bringing controversial topics to my entertainment!” Back in the early 1900s even mentioning interracial marriage or support for it would lead to the same banter you see today on the forums.

In terms of mechanics people are tired of the massive amounts of systems being introduced

Just don’t go?

This isn’t even close to hardcore mode. This is get out alive to get your boxes.

It isn’t too different from timing a M+ key, really.

The game design has been swinging this way and there is no conceivable way i see it changing. There will always be something new to grind. I haven’t looked much but looks like Anima, Torghast, and Convenants are it in Shadowlands.

I remember Wotlk. There was the grind, yes, but the game was still relatively simple, successful, and it was fun. Now, It’s like adding too many condiments to a burger to make it taste better.

It’s trending?
(something I learned a little bit about and wanted to test it. If something is trending you talk about it for like clicks to release a chemical in your mind to feel better.)

Pretty sure people are disappointed about the influx of systems being forced into practice with Covenants(borrowed power), Soulbinds(more borowed power), AP Grind, Garrison.

If you like that great but most I think don’t.

Pretty much same formula more or less as BFA.

Other than Blizzard pandering with politics, it’s nothing new; people will always cry about something.

That’s how some people have interpreted Pealgos, a character in Bastion. Apparently, in Bastion, the ideas is to cast aside who you were in your previous life so that you can “ascend” or something like that.

This “casting aside of your previous life” can also include gender. Pelagos was a female who, upon entering Bastion, now presents as male. Thus, people are freaking out over what has been deemed as a Trans character (and we cannot forget the male Night Warrior who has/had a husband).

Aw man. this is not good. I was looking forward to shadowlands.

I really wish they didn’t do this, but it seems to be the new norm now. Lawbreakers, The Last of us 2, Sunset, and even shows like Batwoman. It’s infiltrated too many forms of media for it to be even remotely escapable unless one decides to seperate themselves from these things entirely.

The reason people are mad about Shadowlands is for a few things

  • Livestream felt lifeless.
  • Livestream seemed to been more about promoting merch and bug fixes than actual announcements
  • Systems that no one cares about AKA more followerish stuff.
  • No definitive release date for the prepatch nor the expansion.
  • No announced changes to M+ reward structures or new affixes or return of Master Loot
  • No announced mention of vendors outside of PvP stuff that we already know. But we only know their existence not the vendor contents/grind system
  • Maw being as unforgiving as Runescape death systems.
  • IRL politics/events being injected into our game.

Personally it’s fine that you lose something for dying in the Maw. Not once in my entire time playing BfA and Legion WPvP have I saw people grief with a train of mobs except when Rextroy did it with Kul Tiran guards to other players.

Some of these reasons have reasonable grounds for refunding Shadowlands. But this is what I see so far

Well, black lives do matter. I haven’t heard a single person say otherwise. I think what people are up in arms about is the apparent unwillingness to have an honest and open conversation about what needs to happen to improve the QoL for PoC. For BLM it’s all about police brutality and any opinion that’s not 100% complimentary gets you labeled a racist.

Personally I I’m confident I will enjoy this expac why be ause we the player have soooooo much more control and it’s so mon competitive I can take my time enjoy the story line . Snd I even thinking of trying mythics… this time around…and …possible dip my toes in pvp…I really dont see a major dowside…only there no specific release date but They prepared us for November…so I’m good…people need to remember this a a fantasy game it gets us putta reality for a bit…people are way too sensitive these days the Same sort of things have happened…over 100 years in the United states…I dont get offended by anything anymore life goes on after we die the next gen will have to put up with the same issues …so my advice chill out…you dont want to play dont play…this is not rocket science

It looks interesting to me and from the podcasts i listen to torghast alone sounds like it’ll be 50% of my playtime in SL…I dont give a single (you know) about raiding at all…so im fairly pleased how SL is looking thus far. Also remember there are always a % of players that must whine and complain. That’s nothing new. It happens everytime each expansion without fail.

You should watch and evaluate it yourself instead of asking for second hand info filtered thru other people’s biases.

Personally, I thought the ideas put forth were engaging. But I don’t expect the game, or any game, to bend to my playstyle.
